I think its cool, good to hear a different take on the song rather than a glorified karoake effort (i.e Bruno Mars at the Grammys). Its got that 'early 70's Sly Stone with a twist' sound that VH does so well.

I like it. It's totally left field and it sounds like he tried to channel Prince a little with the multitracked background vocals. It also has a D'Angelo vibe. Maybe D'Angelo doing prince vibe lol.

Regardless of what you think of this cover, Van is absolutely the real fucking deal and I consider him to be the greatest songwriter of the last 30 years. If anyone cares to check out his work, here's a few songs I would recommend to a beginner: The Lowest 1 Of My Desires Headroom Mean Sleep There's Never A G'Time To Say G'Bye At The End Of A Slow Dance North Hollywood Falls (Violet)

Van Hunt's music is nowhere near as good as D'Angelo's... on any level

. Sounded like he changed the lyrics too. I heard: "Let's go crazy... let's get nuts... look for the purple letter til they put us in control." . I'm usually not down for anyone covering Prince. This is no exception. [Edited 3/17/20 6:16am]

Artists shud move on from the HITS. The best covers have been deeper catalog songs that are not as identifiable to Prince’s unigue persona.

Nope. Just a big fan of Van.

Probably his biggest hit is "Hopeless", given to Dionne Farris for the "Love Jones" soundtrack.

- I agree that Van Hunt is absolutely great, but this is, well, just ok. - next. -
