I think its cool, good to hear a different take on the song rather than a glorified karoake effort (i.e Bruno Mars at the Grammys). Its got that 'early 70's Sly Stone with a twist' sound that VH does so well.

werent there people on this site that spoke of how talented this guy is? WRONG

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

I like it. It's totally left field and it sounds like he tried to channel Prince a little with the multitracked background vocals. It also has a D'Angelo vibe. Maybe D'Angelo doing prince vibe lol.

I would take Van Hunts 04-20 output over Prince's 89-16 output any day of the week.

Regardless of what you think of this cover, Van is absolutely the real fucking deal and I consider him to be the greatest songwriter of the last 30 years.

If anyone cares to check out his work, here's a few songs I would recommend to a beginner:

The Lowest 1 Of My Desires
Headroom
Mean Sleep
There's Never A G'Time To Say G'Bye
At The End Of A Slow Dance
North Hollywood
Falls (Violet)

I like Van Hunt, but he's not THAT good. He's much better than D'angelo tho.

Van Hunt's music is nowhere near as good as D'Angelo's... on any level

.

Sounded like he changed the lyrics too. I heard: "Let's go crazy... let's get nuts... look for the purple letter til they put us in control."

.

I'm usually not down for anyone covering Prince. This is no exception.

I don't even consider D'angelo fit to be mentioned in the same league as Van. Everything from productivity, songwriting, diversity, musicianship and vocals, Van smokes D'angelo on all fronts.

Artists shud move on from the HITS.

The best covers have been deeper catalog songs that are not as identifiable to Prince’s unigue persona.

Probably his biggest hit is "Hopeless", given to Dionne Farris for the "Love Jones" soundtrack.
