Black Album - are we agreed that it's his funkiest album?

I know many will say 1999 - BUT in terms of hardcore F.U.N.K. this is by far funkier than 1999 [which has several cross over / rock tracks etc]

Honourable mentions then to 1999 & Controversey BUT The Black Album, is by some way THE funkiest!

Also, F.U.N.K. is not on the Black Album.

my threads always get locked so i'll just put this here ... what do u think prince called the black album?

I mean obviously we never got an album by anything called "the artist formerly known as prince" even tho everyone else called him that .. I am not sure prince ever called it the "black album" .. I thought he wanted to call it "the funk bible" ... as far as I know he has never had the name of the album on any official art work ..

just a thought but .. is it really called "the black album"?

is it just unpronouncable so we call it the black album but that was not prince intent?

well that IS something .. and there is that sticker that says "the legendary black album" .. but is it called THE BLACK ALBUM or is it just called the "black" album because it has no name? .. is led zep 4 called zoso? or 4? .. what about weezer? .. did prince ever reference it as the black album prior to its release? is was it all post referencial? .. prince went with "the artist" but that was after everyone was calling him the artist formerly etc ... i dont think prince originally wanted everyone calling him "the artist" or tafkap .. i want the estate to come up with the handwritten tracklist for the album now known as the black album .. they should post stuff like that on instagram to get people excited for the next pile of vault trax .. while i am at it .. the sott rehearsals are so great . should be included in the duper xtra d lux sign box

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the thread title.

IMO Exodus is the funkiest album but it doesn't stop there. I think some of the outtakes from that project are funkier still. That live version of Proud Mary is orgasm inducing.

I think 1999 is his funkiest and after that Black Album and Exodus.

Yes to the outtakes. It would have been even better if the likes of Mad, Funky Design, Acknowledge Me and Love...Thy Will Be Done had made the cut

.

But that's a whole new thead..

I always wondered why he considered this album to be the definitive funk statement at the time, when the Camille album was wayyy funkier imo.

I think Genesia simply mis-read the intent of that acronym in the OP.

Also, it's "P.F.U.N.K". if I remember right but pretty sure the OP was using caplital letters L.I.K.E. T.H.I.S instead of referring to the song.

Regardless, so much of Exodus is just mad raw so that album still wins. It's helped by that great band he had at the time, the anger and passion he seemed to be feeling, and using less studio elements to record the music.

I like TBA a lot and 1999 is my all time favorite album of all time but some of it is synthetic and a little "programed".

Exodus
The Camille album (Unreleased in this format but easy to compile)

I would place The Black Album somewhere after these two. Goldnigga is also very funky instrumentally and well-produced.

Large parts of the Love Symbol album, Come, The Gold Experience, NewPower Soul, Crystal Ball, Slaughterhouse, MPLSound and HitnRun Phase 2 are also very strongly funk oriented.

There's no harm in admitting a mistake instead of arrogantly trying to plkay it off as if you didn't misread the original post.
There's zero sarcasm in your post, you just made a mistake and that is OK wink
