My Name Is Prince 7-minute video

Was digging through the deep web and discovered some info on this. It's not the "porn" version but does have the 1:30 "news reporter" intro. Does anyone know more on this?

With all due respect, you posts are often written in too confused a manner for people to be able to help you. You probably ain't a native English speaker and that's not your fault, but there's a few things you could still do to help people help you wink

For example, it would help if you quoted what you read word for word and/or paraphrased it while explaining the context of the quote (Who wrote that? To whom? What was it all about? In which context did someone claim to have seen that vid or heard of it?)) and/or sourced it (which site did u read that on?). If such a version exists despite Pvault having missed it, I'm also interested in tracking it down, but we'd need as much info as possible before we can decide if it's worth looking into.

Yes, I'd be keen to see it too.

.

One thing that springs to mind is it could have Tony's rap unedited, unlike the 5.23 version on Youtube and iTunes.

He's a native English speaker from Australia.

He's also just kind of loopy. I suppose there are worse personality quirks on the org. Not that it makes understanding his posts any easier, just saying.

No, that is only 3.52. But it does have Tony’s full rap

Yes, if it was the album version + the journalist intro, the length would add-up quite perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that such a version might exist in the vault, but I'm not aware of it having ever been sent to TV or aired anywhere. But as long as Aaron won't give us clearer explaination about the source for his info, we cannot help.

eek eek eek So... what's going on??? eek eek eek

Yes, and I'd add that at some point, not making any effort to express oneself clearly on a message board is rude to the people you're trying to communicate with. Not that my own manners were always perfect on the Org, I plead guilty for sometimes having been an ass, but at least people understood me lol lol lol

I can't say I have any specific knowledge about this version in paricular but I do seem to remember Video Music Box was playing that era of Prince videos in their entirety and there was a longer version of My Name Is.... that was like the Sexy M'Fer video with the credits at the beginning and end and maybe more Kirstie Alley or just something that went on too long.

Grammatically and syntactically, this post is fine.

Fair enough, but Aaron wrote his fair share of riddles since he's joined us, so I assumed it may have been a language problem.

Ha! Now we're talking! Thx!!biggrin I was able to track it down from the clues on that pic, however you need to pay for an account on some obscure files download sites and I ain't givng my credit card to these. If someone here feels it's safe, by all means give it a shot (no links on the Org for these, of course).

.

BUT what I also found is that it comes from something titled "ETV ET-VideoLink Reel 593. Dance Hits October 1992", then I found that it's connected to a company called Telegenics (I saw some vids with that logo on YT) http://www.telegenics.net/etv.html https://www.discogs.com/l...ort_order= (unfortunately that 1992 tape is not listed on Discogs).

.

I'm not completely sure but my understanding is that it seems to be a video equivalent to services like Razormaid, where they'd make longer versions of the vids themselves? But there are also plenty of these on YT that just appear to be regular MVs https://www.youtube.com/u...loidcloset, so maybe they did both (production and remix)?

.

In that case it could mean that it's official (= licenced to WB) but not the original (if it even exists) long Prince version, but a long cut made from album audio + repeated snippets of the normal MV?

.

Now the question is who were these sent to? Probably both subscribers and TV channels, but could it be TV channels also played them, which could explain it being aired on Video Music Box as mentioned above? https://en.wikipedia.org/..._Music_Box Or did Prince send yet a separate, in-house longer version to MVB? Anyone remember ever seeing that Telegenics logo on music videos on TV back then?

.

Still not completely solved but we're definitely unto something!! biggrin Anyone can help figuring out more from these clues?

.

What I can share is that videos in the early 90's would get released in a number of ways in addition to the obvious tape from the label. There were the equivalent of record pools but for videos with compilations (not sure if Telegenics qualifies or what they were used for, but I think similar would turn up in nightclubs and retail shops that would have videos on in the background). I've seen the TG bug in the lower right corner, but never the full name on the left hand side. I couldn't tell you where or why.

New York was full of music video tapes getting recycled for film school projects (sometimes people would just use the generic black hard shell plastic cases to save a buck, and dump the tape itself) and you would see a lot of recogizable videos listed with different versions, and the rare times I was curious to look, they were rarely much different, or they would just be the same video recut over a remix version. Sometimes the tapes would just be for that video alone, and sometimes they would have 3-4 versions with a card, listing the time code where it starts under the label logo, and an inserted page with the same description. The videos were getting serviced by anyone from the label, to the production company to their publicist, or sometimes all the above. The labels would have alternative cuts, and compilations of their artists to try and get people to look at the lesser name artists. You would also see X Rated versions, clean versions, dance versions, and versions that sure as hell looked the same (I can remember a cheerleader version of Smells Like Teen Spirit, that maybe lingered on the cheerleaders more). I personally don't recall ever seeing a Prince tape, so I'm just talking in general terms.

Also, interesting it's titled as MNIP (Long Club Version). There is no such version exactly but it could be the 12" Club Mix from the Maxi single. Or one of the unreleased mixes
