Both fascinate me, because I can't watch them without wondering how that went down on set. Partyman looks like it must have been... awkward... at times. Did Prince say "I'm going to do a jig from The Wiz, and you all react"? Or was there a choreographer?

I would pick one of the more famous ones. Imagine going back in time and watching Prince crawl across the floor in When Doves Cry, or shimmy, spin, and split in Little Red Corvette, or walking out in the cloud suit in Raspberry Beret...just thinking about seeing those iconic moments in person gives me goosebumps.

Well, I was, and its nothing as romantic as you might think it is.

But otherwise to answer the question: Raspberry Beret comes to mind.

No such luck. The initial all live video was recorded at Earls Court in London, after the main show had ended and most people had left, Prince and the band returned to the stage with cameras and flimed Call The Law. There was only about 15 rows of fan in an empty arena. He used that footage to make the first version of the video, before he added new studio/in-house shots that became the common version.

"Come On" when he's in the street doing the old man bit.

And it's been awhile since I've seen the "Glam Slam" video. The miming in these Prince videos always confuses me, why is he strumming an acoustic guitar during the verses?

Anything you'd like to share? The street scenes in 'My Name is Prince' intrigue me, as does the 'Sexy MF' video. Were you present for the shooting of those segments? Did Prince engage in much interaction with the crowd during these recordings?

Prince did not engage with the crowd. Sexy MF was the garage scene at Paisley Park. There was an after party in the atrium. MNIP was indeed the "street scene". It was filmed in the alleys at Glam Slam. I Wanna Melt With U was in the Erotic City room at Glam Slam. Prince did not film his scenes there. I remember them playing Jump Around by House of Pain to get the crowd dancing. I admit I was a little shocked when I saw the nude women walking dogs through there. Somebody's Somebody was the scene where Prince can be seen walking through the dancing crowd. That was in the L4OA/NPGMC room. The rest were all concerts in the soundstage at Paisley Park. If I remember correctly, they did Gold twice and Rock N Roll Is Alive and Days of Wild from the L4OA special were done the same night. They played a mini-concert afterwards.

His videos started getting semi-passable only like 20-25 years into his career.

I would say a lot earlier than that... I mean Alphabet St... In 1988?? Compared to the videos MJ and Madonna were making that year

Madge thinks cash and is a very obedient capitalist, although a good talent scout.
Prince would have told David Fincher to hump himself after ten minutes.

Prince didn't believe in the bullshit of posing outside the stage.
Most of his videos are him performing, for the video, or for a live audience.
Ain't no way Prince is going to do thirty takes to correctly
throw a bowl of milk over his shoulder.

Prince's videos were ads to go see him live,
on stage, where the real shit happens. And where true musicians are set apart
from the ones who spend weeks to appear as (short) movies heroes.
Most of the time, they're the same often caught in the act of playbacking live,
which I consider the supreme insult you can ever do to an audience.

No one said Gett Off and that was the first one that sprang to mind so that one.
