What version of the When Doves Cry was the "original" version?

Having the feeling that the "Album Version/12" Version" re-edit just has the ending effects looped throughout the guitar solo, I am unsure what version supposedly played on MTV back in 1984. Of course, some subscription services were suppiled with the 12" video that year, but what got suppiled to TV stations?

I'm referring to the When Doves Cry video, not the song itself.

The only true answer.

I don't know about the "ending effects looped throughout the guitar solo." WTF is that?

The video is the album version that runs almost 6 minutes. The 12" version is just the album version.

There is a 7" edit that runs 3:49 and there's a similar edit for a shorter version of the video.

Unreleased is an instrumental edit, and the presumably album version but with the bass.

It was remixed in the 90s by Kirk with new keyboards and beats.

But the original is the 5:52 version with the bass. The original version released is on the album and 12".

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Consider the source.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Another unreleased version does exist in the vault , this version is. The 1st take more produced and alternate version with extra bass, keyboards , drums and guitars. !

Consider the source indeed but for what it's worth, check out what version is played on the Purple Rain premiere MTV show, available on the Purple Rain 20 DVD that all fans own. It's probably the closest you're going to get short of an actual VHS recording of MTV in 1984.

What proof do you have of any of your claims? Everyone here has offered evidence and proof of what we know exists, based on relases, records, testimony, etc. But you've offered nothing as backup. I'd say the burden of proof is on you beyond just saying "another unreleased version does exist." You could say that about any song Prince wrote, really. Doesn't mean it's a fact, though. It's circumstantial or guesswork at best.

Confirmed several times by Mc Creary Peggy in Interviews

Which still totally unreleased song would you like to see released?

I already told you about "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore", but there is also the first version of "When Doves Cry" before he made a stripped down version for people to hear the original version. I don't know if it's going to come out. It lasts a long time, between 7 and 9 minutes, but it's interesting.
