Many, many worthy choices listed here, but today I'd have to say Purple Music - a master class in purple funk. The fact that it stomps for as long as it does (every single one of those 658 seconds is necessary imo), while staying both interesting and mind-blowingly funky proves he was a funk Jedi Master. Surprised no one has mentioned Possessed!! Prince’s ode to James Brown * My choice would be Mutiny - you just CANNOT sit still on that one. Love the Controversy/Mutiny mashup on the Parade tour. SO good!!

. . THANK YOU . Needed to be said. I'm not a fan of Tony's rapping, but the NPG is flat-out KILLING IT on "Jughead" - maybe the funkiest track on D&P for sure. . Same goes for a bunch of GoldN**** - again, not loving Tony on there, but some of those grooves are SLAMMIN I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

I think I already threw down my answer, and I forget what it was and too lazy to look through ATM... . But really - even though it owes so much to the contributions of Mazarati - I really think that "Kiss" (though it's not the coolest, most 'inside' deep track to pick by any means!) is perhaps the stone-cold, WHOLE-BODY, put-you-in-constant-spastic-gyration FUNKIEST piece of music the man ever released. . There's no other P track that really sounds like it - and there's no other artist EVER to get a sound quite as unforgettably distinct as that. . Never will forget the MOMENT I heard it for the very first time in a friend's car while getting driven home from a sleepover and KNOWING who it was in an instant even though it sounded so fresh and new. Mind-blowing. . And it works like a charm every single time. . Oh yeah, I put "Sexuality" earlier in the post which is tremendous but I think I was hung up on thinking a bit deeper than universally-loved/known hits. But sometimes the hits are universally-loved/known for good reason. And there is no other groove like "Kiss." I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

She’s Always In My Hair is pretty funky. Matter of fact, it is quite foul…stanking, if you will.

I was just listening to some of the '85 PR rehearsals of Irresistible Bitch, and NOW I've got to switch up my answer Wendy's opening guitar licks and then the drums kick in....oh lawd that is FUNKY!!! I think it's a 3-way tie between IB, Possessed, and Mutiny. ALL three are funky as hell. * I love Erotic City too, but to me it's more of a sexy/sultry slower funky. * Watching Prince performing IB, Possessed live in '85 and Mutiny in '86, it's clear he thought they were some of his funkiest songs as well. He always extended them and had so much fun with them on stage.
