I have both the LP & CD released in EUR/GER, and a rip of the AUS CD. I really wish they would reissue this one so I could get a CD without the glitch.

I can't believe that the glitched version is the one on Tidal. How sloppy is that?

No excuse.

Obviously they just ripped a CD. The wrong one at that.

Oh, cool - I could listen to Susan talking about studio technicalities all day. smile

It's funny how many of her stories revolve around the mistakes or doing something improperly and keeping the results.

I've always thought it was sad we never got a reunion with the engineer he did most (not all) of his best work with, but then hearing her talk, she doesn't sound like she was all that technically skilled. Then again, you could say that about a lot of Prince's collaborators.

Is this where someone in the skit says something like "Same way I saw your mama last night"? On my vinyl it's complete but on my CD it's paused out. At first I thought it was just my CD but it's definitely a glitch. Thanks for confirming this.

[Edited 1/23/20 12:03pm]

That's it. Up until now I actually had no idea the end of that sentence was "last night". I've never heard the missing piece.

There was a debate here awhile back as to whether it was a "glitch" (mistake) or an intentional censor.

I've always believed it was a glitch because:

Originally, the gap was only on the EUR (GER?) CD, the vinyl from the same region released on the same day did not have the gap. And, the Australian CD does not have the gap.

Other than that, considering the language on the CD, it would make no sense that this was censored and nothing else was.

I have both the LP & CD released in EUR/GER, and a rip of the AUS CD. I really wish they would reissue this one so I could get a CD without the glitch.

And what would be the point ?

The point? Like I said, "so I could get a CD without the glitch".

Unless you have a copy of the Australian release that you'll sell me for $10.
That would be cool. cool

don't know if its a mistake or intentional. Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) at 2:56 the microphone is bumped or hit. right before he's says come here then you hear the noise. considering what he's singing about it i wonder if he's roughing up in his mind whomever he upset with for making him cry. its in the original and in the deluxe version.

Joy In Repetition features the full version on cassette and it is edited on CD and vinyl for some odd reason.

We should have a page/wiki/whatever about this. It comes up regularly.

I don't know if there's a glitch or not in my copy (I think not) and I don't care, especially if it a on a skit.

So, check, and if not sell it to me (cheap), or don't rain on my parade when I wish for a reissue.
Because I DO care.

Most likely Prince thought it transitioned better without the fade on CD, since there was no side 1 side 2. The LP, however, should have followed the cassette pattern with the change of sides, so I'd assume the LP was a misprint based on the CD master, but who knows...

I thought I remembered that there were different versions of Anna Stesia, but is this included on your site, Databank? I just looked (to try to see how much difference there was), but I didn't see it there.

There's a rare US promo of the album where, iirc, each track fades out, that I think is on the list of things I need to add to the site. That's the only alt mix of the track I'm aware of but if you find something please let me know smile

It wasn't what Prince wanted Susan Rogers to do; she misunderstood his direction. But he liked it so much that he kept her "mistake". And I agree - it's awesome. I've never heard anything like that in any other song.

I always felt that it was such a clever idea to foreshadow the lyrics rather than echo them, I just assumed that it was conceived that way. smile It works beautifully.

I have always wanted to hear a version that was mixed the way Prince had originally planned when he recorded it, with the back up vocal in the traditional place behind the lead vocal.

But yes, back in 1987 I thought this was intentional and just another way Prince was buggin.
