Netflix doc update: It's in the research stage with a new producer Former WB exec Marylou Badeaux said on her Facebook page that she has been thoroughly interviewed by the new producer of the Prince documentary for Netflix. Marylou went on to say that the (as yet unnamed) producer is an award-winning documentarian who is dedicated to honoring Prince with a comprehensive project. It's in the early research stage now, and will likely come out in 2022. https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast |

Maybe the Estate could get Ken Burns to do one? |

They really have a steep hill to climb. The only way it really works if if they have access to unseen footage and they have stories about him as a person behind the scenes that never made it into the bios. |

What a bummer. It was supposed to be released early 2019. |

Presumably, they will have access to the Vault. |

They have vault access; but the problem is building a narrative from someone who was so private. The "new" producer is excellent and not the person MB talked to.
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me. |

Well, it's about time we heard something on this. Was really sorry to see that when Ava D. bugged out on it. Maybe she thought there were just too many hurdles? Time will tell if it is done right. Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling... |

I suspect this will never happen!

That would be amazing. A multi-part, comprehensive, long-as-hell Ken Burns documentary with authorized use of music and interviews with key folks who don't usually participate in interviews -- yes, please. |

You know what I think it might've been? I think the estate decided they didn't want to go along with Ava simply because of her association with Oprah after the "Leaving Neverland" disaster. I say that because before that she just did "The Breakfast Club" interview and was just talking about working on it, then MJ's documentary comes out where Oprah gets involved interviewing the liars and all of sudden the estate doesn't want Ava to do the doc. It's like they are being VERY CAREFUL and don't want Prince involved in any the fuckery, just like when they decided to not include"ExtraLovable" and "Lust U Always" on the 1999 superdeluxe. I was looking forward to Ava directing the doc but at the same time with the estate being particular I can't say I blame them. |

I hope they take their time and do it right.
In the meanwhile the stories that I heard about Prince from firsthand accounts and from the people that were involved in his life are very solid documentary enough for me for the time being.
I know they are still grieving but I want to hear more stories from Prince's siblings while they are still around. |

Not to throw cold water, but my fear is that it will be fairly curated...kind of like Bohemian Rhapsody was...
We'll see. Hope I'm wrong. |

She may have, but I still believe what I just said with the estate as well. You see the changes they are making like not renewing the contract with Graceland LLC for PP. |

Ava put herself firmly on the wrong side of history by supporting that fake, fraudulent MJ piece, which has been thoroughly debunked and thrown out of court on multiple occasions. Once it all came out that it was a plant to take the heat of the Weinstein documentary it was over.
So she won't be missed on the Prince project.

Try it this way next time: "I dont think Spike's documentary on MJ was good. It was boring to me. He has some othe docs such as 4 Little Girls that are pretty great though and he did justice to Passing Strange." Leave off the grammar nonsense because that just makes you look like an asshole. Bohemian Rhapsody was not a documentary and was never intended to be.

Bohemian Rhapsody was not a documentary and was never intended to be.
Perhaps I used the incorrect example...my point is that IMO there will likely be a sanctioned narrative.
My hope is that this is not the case.

I really wish people stop blaming Ava and Oprah on the MJ documentary . Typical always going after the women not the males as the male producer was the producer and was the one who started this while Oprah just supported and host it and Ava sided with Wade and James.
And also Ava leaving this has NOTHING to do with her views on MJ and she was hired to this Netflix documentary after her views about MJ was known.

Did anyone else watch the recent 'Mystify: Michael Hutchence' movie?
Like the Amy Winehouse film 'Amy' is was fantastic (if not sad).
Baring in mind that there is probably ten times more recorded archive footage on Prince, in the right hands it could be one hell of a documentary. . |
