Beyond happy to have Purple Music and Do Yourself a Favor in this kind of quality. They were the first two "unreleased" tracks I heard after becoming a P fan. I can think of two songs that would've taken the place of that unnecessary "tour demo" quite nicely, but that horse has been beaten more than enough.

now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.

Funny that Ya, U Know is a song that makes fun of a sort of early 80s Minnesotan-version of the "Valley Girl". Also, the song references in a broad Fargo Accent that they would get a job but that the world is ending...sort of like a foreshadow to the apocalyptic themes of 1999...

Does anyone else hear a bit of the guitar riff from "Elephants and Flowers" in this version of "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got?"

Possessed (1982 Version, Delirious (Full Length), Purple Music, Moonbeam Levels (2019 Remaster), Can’t Stop This Feeling I Got, Do Yourself A Favor and Lady Cab Driver / I Wanna Be Your Lover / Little Red Corvette (Tour Demo) are my favorites. Just like disc 3 it's a great collection of unreleased material. cool

^ Glad to see some love for the tour demo although I relate to laments about it too. That grandiose ending is killer 😃. Disagree about Colleen. Sure it goes absolutely nowhere but it sho is funky 😁

The music sounds exactly like that "Cruisin Down the Highway" boot. I love it.

Possessed (1982 Version)
What an absolute treat to finally have this is great quality! It's already been discussed to death due to its prevelance on bootlegs, but I will always regard this as the superior version of the song. This really should have been the lead single.

Delirious (Full Length)
I've always prefered this version, but I don't really think it was essential enough to justify a place on here, esspecially when there are alternate version of other album tracks that would have been much more interesting to hear. I would have been happy with the bootleg we already have in steller quality.

Purple Music
I've never been a huge fan of the song, although that's not to say I don't like it. Hearing it in this quality is certainly nice - I'm rather surprised by the mono drum track, as the bootleg doesn't sound that way (but it's probably been through several thousand filters).

Yah, You Know
The 86 version definitely has more energy with Eric's horns overdubbed, but this is certainly an interesting listen - especially the double-tracked vocal. I'm suspecting this is a new mix.

Moonbeam Levels (2019 Remaster)
Finally a definitive master of the track. It's obviously not a remix, so it's interesting that the outro has been cut off most bootlegs/ 4Ever.

No Call U
Another rockabilly song - and probably the worst of the batch. It's not bad, but it drags on way too much and is repetitive.

Can’t Stop This Feeling I Got
I'm really digging this version! It sounds like a gateway between Controversy and 1999.

Do Yourself A Favor
This is one I never really paid attention to on the bootlegs. It has a real early-80s City Pop vibe for me. It's a very enjoyable four minute song that goes for nine.

Don’t Let Him Fool Ya
This has always been a favourite. The quality it a bit strange though - it's increadibly boomy and sounds cassette-sourced.

Teacher, Teacher
I've always considered this a throwaway track. This version doesn't change that.

Lady Cab Driver / I Wanna Be Your Lover / Little Red Corvette (Tour Demo)
It's certainly an interesting peice. At points, his background vocals seem to perfectly match that of his band at the time!

Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Ah! I confused it with Turn It Up. I don't think it's the best on the set, but it's definitely up there.

What a strong disc of unreleased gems and a much better selection than part 1 (in my opinion). Although we've heard many of them already, it's great to have them in such fine quality.

I've always loved the 'bootleg' or DEMO quality of a lot of the stuff, unpolished if you will. Like how Leaving 4 New York sounds, or Lisa.
And that is something I actually enjoy about a lot of these, is they have that early 1977-1980 feel still, and I still hear that into 1986 outtakes etc

But that is something that is helping me enjoy this set.

Great to hear Moonbeam Levels in full glory. The outro is a fitting end.

The only thing that still annoys me about the song is the sort of 'steam' sound effect/sample right at the beginning. It always sounded a bit 'duff', but clearly the source was.

Is Possessed meant 2 go really quiet in volume at the start or is it a fault on my copy?
Sorry if it seems a dumb question but i've never heard any of these previously unreleased vault songs b4 so don't know what they're supposed 2 b like sound quality wise

I ain't got no…MOH-nee!

Love the tour demo just for the vocal intro to I Wanna Be Your Lover.

With this verison of Possessed and Do Yourself a Favor, this disc is a gem. Those two songs, along with Feel U Up, Irressistible Bitch, and Turn It Up from the first disc of outtakes in this collection were among the very first Prince bootlegs I ever owned. 3 decades later, to dive deep into these songs with headphones in such great quality is unreal.

Did any boot version of No Call U have the first minute and a half of the song? The arrangement actually makes sense now.

i think i'm in a very small minority group who actually enjoys the Purple Rain Deluxe version of "Possessed" more than this one.

when i first heard it on PRDeluxe i couldn't believe what i was hearing. that was THE surprise
of that release for me. i love that track where i always thought the bootleg we had was ok but
nowhere near any of my favorite songs. now i listen to it sooo often woot!

still, it's great to have the 1982 version as well now and in such good quality cool

It´s great to have both but I really prefer the PRD version as well - P-O-S-S-E-S-S-E-D, jigsaw puzzle are some favorite parts wink

the tour demo is particularly fascinating, it is interesting to see some of the roads he didn't take. It gives you a glancing insight into his process smile

The tour demo is the least essential track for me on the vault discs. However I still enjoy it and it is growing on me.

You didn't confuse it with another song. It is indeed a rockabilly song, and you're right, it's the worst of the batch. Whatever AvocadosMax is saying; the best on the set?! Come on man, its clearly not.

Both versions are fascinating, different animals with their own perfection. The PRDeluxe version has a cold electronic feel, still sounds quite modern and not too far removed from what Orbit did later with The Future. This set's version is like JB inhabited Prince's body or vice versa, long enough to result in a major MPLS Sound opus.

I may be in the minority here, but I think I prefer the boot version of Purple Music.

Not a fan of the added reverbs and keyboards, distracts from that infectious bass line.
