Please reply! - How much would you pay for a monthly vault subscription?

Simple enough question. Be it a monthly NPG style where each month content is delivered on a 'get what you're given' basis OR something like Tidal / Spotify where you can take what you want when you want when content is released.

Right now I pay £9.99 per month to Tidal & I love it. To have access to unreleased songs, video content, deluxe packages etc I would HAPPILY pay £50.00 per month minimum. Bearing in mind I just spent £60.00 on the 1999 Deluxe!

Regardless of whether this has been discussed before please reply as I think it would help the estate have a guide on future pricing strategy based on whetted appetities from the 1999 set!.

Let's assume the model gives access to unreleased / unheard off vault tracks, live gigs, aftershows, offical pro-shot gigs from ALL eras etc...i.e. a purple wet dream!

$77.77 for take what you want all access. $7.77 for take what is given. I realize that $77 is out of a lot of people's price range so they should have a premium and a standard membership. Honestly, I would pay a lot more than $77 for an all access pass.

this type of service WILL happen. Only after WB, Sony and the estate have exhausted all thier efforts in getting the most ROI on what they can. Realistically, his 80's releases and maybe a couple of his 90's will get the super deluxe release. Can't imagine their being a big demand for NPS or C&D.

Why not put it on spotify? Why a seperate subsciption? Prince isnt alive anymore, why does the estate have to make a lot of money? 77 per month to straam prince songs is crazy.

Zero. I don't pay for Spotify or Tidal so I certainly wouldn't be paying for a music streaming service with just one artist on it. If they do something like that, I'll just illegally download the music I want.

However, if they were to make his vault recordings available for sale, then I'd be willing to buy them providing they are reasonably priced.

And you don't feel even a tinge of guilt for your illegal downloading? Are you entitled to that music? You seem to brag about it. It's a shitty thing to do. This behavior has put countless record stores, labels, artists, etc..out of business. I'm not trying to sound righteous here. I've done my share of illegal downloading...but I'm not actually proud of it.

^^^ Illegal downloading of music/video content is stealing if the said merchandise is available legally for purchase. If the artist isn't receiving monetary compensation for it then it's thievery. The artist WORKED on those creations as it was their job/calling to do so. What's the difference between an illegal download and walking into a museum, taking a painting off of the wall and walking out with it tucked under your jacket? There are other things in my life that I have to buy besides exclusive access to Prince music. I couldn't afford $77 per MONTH. Yes, I would pay that for a year subscription but not per month.

I like physical product so count me as a $0 per month. Digital music has no value when you get right down to it.

I agree it's stealing n generally do the free streaming thing but... what if (like in this case) the artist has punched a higher floor 🙏? They (he) gets nothing anyways. My frugal disenfranchised rationalization.

Edit to say I bought just about everything up to H&R 2 on CD. Parade on cassette just cuz I saw it. Doesn't justify anything I know.

There will be a demand for all kinds of Vault-stuff, like Box-Sets of live-recordings etc. The demand for new releases by Prince had been diminished anyway a long time gao, as it's been mostly us who bought his recordings. The general public went to see him live and like every other legacy-artist, he made most of his income from concerts in, let's say, the last 15 years of his life. The music business has become a boutique business, catering mostly those who care. We do care about Prince's music, and that's why there will always be a demand. As long as wie live, that is. The Zappa's do a superb job these days in releasing two to three box-sets of nuggets from the vault per year. Sure, these are limited editions, but they come exceptionally well packaged. if there wouldn't be a market for it, they won't put that much effort into the conceptions of those boxes. And I very much doubt that the market for Frank-stuff is bigger than the demand for Prince-stuff. But what the Zappa's didn't do much so far is offering download-only-stuff, and we all know why. Must of us like to collect stuff, physical stuf...

I'm not "proud" of it. Like I said, I'd rather BUY the music at a reasonable price. And if they give me that option, I'll take it. But if streaming is the ONLY option they provide, then it's a choice of paying a monthly fee to listen to music (including paying for songs I may not like), while requiring a constant internet connection to do so, or just downloading the songs I do like and be able to listen to them anytime, internet connection or no internet connection. That's not a tough decision for me.

Maybe I'm weird or an old-school soul, but despite being 'just' 32 (and therefore having 'grown up' to some extent in the digital music age), I'm all about buying and collecting physical product. So I'd actually prefer to see continued Originals, 1999 Deluxe etc style releases on CD and vinyl, despite the sometimes exorbitant pricing of the vinyl versions.

Now if it was something involving the delivery of new Prince vinyl to my door every month, I'd probably jump at that, but that would be even more niche than a digital music subscription at this point, lol.

I don't STREAM anything! If it's download to own, I'll pay $1 a track or $10 per album TO OWN!

Streaming is not the wave of the future, Prince Estate. People still want to own things!

I'd pay $3 a month for an online WNPG Radio station that exclusively played his music, rare gems, live material, unreleased stuff, associated artists, interviews and other new/classic funk music that needs a larger platform.

It was always fun to listen to those German 24/7 Prince stations before he had them shut down. Heard alot of live bootlegs for the first time through them.

Haha! Yes! Imagine if, when Prince was alive, he had set up a streaming service for his unreleased music and stated, "and it can all be yours for only £600 per year."

How many of us would have jumped at the chance. Ha.

I am very much the same. I was not a fan of the NPGMC for the reason that even the things you did buy came with DRM so you still had to have access to the key to play it.

but yeah if we assume there are 10,000 hours of content (studio, live, jams, rehearsals, and everything in between--audio and video) without some on demand service... no way we get even 10% of it.
