Holy!$# "Dream Factory"?

I had only heard a few of these cuts. DAMN! This is genius. Wishing and praying "Parade Super Deluxe" is next. Absolute peak. I still think Wendy And Lisa brought out the best in him.

Dream Factory would've followed Parade, so if these tracks were bundled with any album re-issue they would be a SOTT release given that they albums share content too.

.

Personally I'd prefer a separate release, but that might be expecting too much.

Given the volume of material recorded during what led up to Sign 'O' The Times (Dream Factory, Camille, Crystal Ball) it wouldn't be a bad idea to release the Revolution era material as part of a 'Dream Factory' release, and the post break up material as part of SOTT Deluxe.

I'm not saying that Dream Factory needs it's own Super Deluxe or anything? Just a single or double CD for release in the summer and then the SOTT Super Deluxe to follow in winter. It would help take some of the burden off of SOTT Deluxe and make room for more outtakes.

Personally I'd love to see a Dream Factory release that has the original LP on CD1 and then some additional recordings from that era such as 'We Can Funk '86', 'Egg Plant' and 'Splash' on CD2.

NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not.

FYI, last year I listened to a Japanese bootleg called 'A Year In The Studio, 1986 (First Season)' which was a double CD on the PGA label. The tracks included on it are quite common, however it contained the best sounding version of 'It's a Wonderful Day' and 'Teacher Teacher' I've ever heard. These were 5/5 quality. 'In A Large Room With No Lights' still wasn't perfect, but it sounded as good as any other version out there, and it also included 'Power Fantastic' with full intro.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I used it to burn a CD of the 3rd June 1986 configuration Dream Factory and it sounds great. I basically used the 2004 Pimp Sandwich 'Dream Factory', and combined it with 'A Year In The Studio' to fill in the missing tracks (It's A Wonderful Day, Teacher, Teacher, In A Large Room With No Light etc.). The only exception from memory was 'Visions' that I took from the 2019 Sabotage edition of 'Dream Factory' as I believe it sounded slightly better than it did on Pimp Sandwich.

Overall I'm really pleased with it. It's the best version IMO.

Yeah this is part of the problem during the few years where a real album was scrapped as opposed to just a ton of sessions.

To me, part of why SOTT is such a poignant piece of work is that it's him going back to his solo roots. SOTT and 1999 are very similar that way - some slight contributions from the folks around but mostly all him. To slap a bunch of DF tracks on there would paint a picture that is off the mark to me.

DF and related Revolution tracks really could justify their own 3 disc set.

And THAT is why I won't click on Sybil's link. These Dream Factory etc stuff is pretty basic for a hardcore Prince fan, or should be. It's easy to look things up (as you did, being the Vault Curator and all, hehe) and read up on stuff.

I don't care to listen to fanmade anything. Nothing is remastered or whatever unless it comes from the estate. These people with their Cool Edit Pro or Audacity tutorials trying to beef up a cassette to cassette to cassette to cassette copy of a song need to sit down.

You know how those music playing apps all have an "Equalizer" menu? Just each genre having its own preset levels?

That's how I look at bootleg "remasters".... lol. Oh cool. You changed the equalizer presets so now instead of hearing the muddy swampy stomp of the snare, I hear the sharp and crispy vocal track.

I agree about the Dream Factory Prince & the Revolution release

I realized there isn't much music that was created after the Revolution in connection with SOTT the release. Most stuff was music for other artists or in preperation for the Graffiti Bridge movie.
Camille should be released as a seperate project from SOTT too

.

I have about 30 songs connected to the Dream Factory project and sessions.

True, however ‘1999 Super Deluxe’ only had 2 CDs of vault material. Between Prince's solo songs recorded pre-break up, material that was recorded for Crystal Ball, and related tracks from the era there should be enough.

A Walk In Glory for example I would include with a Black Album release

Coco Boys was already being worked on with the Revolution in 1986, there is boots of it at soundchecks on the Parade tour

Witness 4 the Prosecution is a Dream Factory outtake still

Joy In Repetition -Basic tracking took place on July 17th 1986

What I mean is I'm looking for 'unique' pieces done 'outside of the Dream Factory/Camille' sessions that could specifically go with SOTT. 1999 cuts are different and more in time with the 1999 release.

SOTT is unique in a way because of it's evolution. And it seems to be the 1 project in the 80s that Prince technically didn't want. It will definately be a problamatic piece to release as a deluxe in my opinion. But people like you and I if we had our way would probably releases everything in forms as it was to be:Dream Factory Camille Black Album Crystal Ball, Jill Jones etc But I really think the best way is to release the cuts in connection with the aborted projects. Connect all Camille cuts with a Camille release. Connect all Dream Factory(sessions/period recordings) with a Dream Factory release. Connect all Black Album cuts with a Black album release. Release a remastered Sign of the Times set with shows, Bsides extended versions and specific songs made after October 1986 like an 'originals disc'
But I think it would be better to release a 1987 'Originals type set with all those unrel cuts that were to go to other people. Keep it seperate from SOTT and the other projects. Since most were going to people 'outside the camp'

I would definately also release a 1989 Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastics set which I would inclue pieces like Yo Mister if not on a Jill Jones set.
