Yes, I know it's a charatcher, not a "voice" but however, I find much of the Camille stuff really awful due to the sort-of "chipmunk" voice he used (it's not a girl, it's actually a boy). Happy he didn't release that album, and I've always thought U Got The Look was overrated due to being a duet.

I always liked it, just becuase it was odd and quirky and unique. I can't think of anyone else who did the alter ego thing in such a way, to the point of coming up with a album based around that alter ego, even if that album got absorbed into a larger album. Shockadelica is one of my all time favs

It is Prince heresy to even suggest such a thing.

The Camille character/voice is the quintessential element that defines Prince to literary everyone!

For years and for many years to come it is this caricature of Prince that will preceed any other representation of Prince - everything else will merely follow!

I was obsessed with the Chipmunks growing up, so my future love of Camille was destiny.

Nowadays I jam the Chipmunks at correct speed, but I'll take it either way. "Alter ego" blah blah, whatever, but the pitch-shifting itself is fantastic.

It's hard to tell because all these "alter egos" have almost identical personalities to the primary ego.

As you note, Camille is not an alias. Camille is an alter-ego.

I'm not sure what you mean by a character versus a voice. In this context, they're the same thing - and neither of them are aliases. Alexander Nevermind and Joey Coco (for example) are aliases - because they are simply names he used. Jamie Starr and Camille are alter-egos because you actually hear them.
