For me it's the home video version (Purple Rain Tour, Syracuse, 30th March 1985).

I must have bought the video slightly before I bought the Hits / B-Sides as I remember being disappointed with the studio version when I heard it. It grew on me, don't get me wrong. But I loved the energy in the live version and how it segued into Possessed. When I eventually got into the bootlegs I remember feeling more positive about the demo version as I felt it had more of the spirit of the live recording.

Live '85 > 1999SD > B-Side

I heard the B side cut first, so I really got into its sparseness and I love the (doorbell) sounds. Made it feel more edgy for some reason.

But I also love the live PR tour version with Eric Leeds little sax riffs.

I wish he did the song album version sometimes

It's funny because I always thouight the version of 1999 Deluxe was THE version.

I had this on tape years befofe I even heard the official version.

The only difference between the one on Super Deluxe and the one I first heard back in 80something is that the Deulxe version has more warbling vocal effects.

So the Deluxe version is tops.

How far back did you hear the outtake between hearing the 1983 B side?

which version of Jerk Out are you refering to? I don't hear it in any of the versions I know. The version of Pandemonium really isn't, not even the drum track. So... I would really like to hear it, but I don't. Could you be mistaken?

I'll have to make a mix to illustrate. I think its very much like the link between Lady Cab Driver and Rearrange. Or to even more dramatic twisting The Future and Good Love.

I imagine I had the outake on tape 1984 - 86? It was one of the very first "bootleg" tapes I got.

The actual released B-side I didn't hear until much, much later. Maybe on the Hits B sides...maybe? I certainly didn't OWN the released version until the Hits/B Sides. I always wondered for the longest time when people were describing the song it didn't sound like the one I knew.

You were hanging on to low gen copies of the Irresistible Bitch demo this whole time and didn't share it?

Live version Syracuse '85 hadns down!

.

First version I heard of this song! Was like, "whoaaa!"

.

.

When heard the B-side version I was dissappointed.

.

.

I like the version on 1999 Super Deluxe because 1) it is funkier and more upbeat 2) it has more Minneapolis synths and Linn going on.

.

.

The B-side also is basically Cloreen Baconskin with different lyrics
