The Ballad of Dorothy Parker extended version??

I was reading the princevault page and found out an extended version exists planned for the single but was never released. Does anyone know if this is circulating?

One of my favorite prince songs. Not sure if I want a longer version as I like this one for what is brings in the timespan. Just like a favorite dessert but don,t want to overeat.

the live versions were often more jazzy and longer and it could be based on that.

I wonder what the "corrected" version would have sounded like i.e. the murky sound because of the incomplete console. It is perfect as is, I agree.

That and the sync vox for Forever In My Life

Years ago some one teased that the Extended version might find it's way to a ep bootleg release.

Something like that

Maybe they were trolling, rumors. But it never happened

It's not supposed to be, it is a remix of Letitgo.

For me this is - I wanted to say thé best song Prince has ever written - but possible of the best songs I personally think he's ever done.

Heard it a million times.

Never get tired of it.

Never liked it live though.

This perfect recorded studio track is too intimate and too fragile to be played live (imho).

Of course it blends in well with the live jazzy arrangements he often did,

but not my cup of tea.

After a while he also played it too often.

And it's one fo those live songs that can be worn out (same happened to Girl 'n Boys).

-

Ah, an extended version ? really ? Now that would be thé perfect song (before i die). smile

The person in reference that love2thenines2003 mentioned was on a forum with the web-name "tangerine17".

They claimed to be involved with the preperation of the 'Ultimate' release and also

donated photos of his vast collection to be used for the booklet.

According to this person, "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker" was slated to be the second single from 'Sign "O" The Times" with a 12" version.

They also mentioned that it had a sax solo from Eric Leeds included.

The single cover, also according to them, was that sideshot photo of Prince in a yellow trenchcoat with the black hat he wore during "Forever In My Life" in the concert movie.

An absolute -couldabeen- dream release for me, personally!

Makes me still wonder why the real second single still carries the (Extended Version) moniker when it really wasn't one...

It's not supposed to be, it is a remix of Letitgo.

But then the actual remix sounds a bit like a remixed mashup of BoDP and Letitgo.

It does, intentionally yes.
