International Lover Take 1 Live
. Question: was it done "live?" . 1. The drums sound like acoustic drums to me vs. the Linn, and the feel sounds live. Like maybe he was cording it live with just Morris on drums, ,him on piano and vocals at the same time? (though that would be hard to play that piano part and sing at the same time!) . Q2: If not "live", how many tracks is it? . Obvi Piano, drums and vocal, but the piano sometimes sounds like it might be 2 piano tracks. I know P was an amazing pianist, but especially on those 2 hits during "Dar-ling!"...the chord sounds so BIG! like he's playing bass notes, mid range notes, and higher notes. That would be some huge hand stretching! .

[Edited 12/12/19 16:56pm] Ok...seriously this post is gonna get ripped to shreds by orgers. Seriously though to answer your questions. It’s Prince and Morris working out the song for the Time. Prince decided to take it back. Of course they’re real drums it’s Morris Day playing. It’s one piano track btw.

I feel the op on wondering of the piano track was already down and he was just singing over it. I assumed he was playing it with microphone there to sing into as if in concert. If so, very talented to do both like that, as we all know. "Climb in my fur."

If you listen to the Story of 1999 podcasts, Peggy describes the studio set up as him sitting at his piano and being able to see both Morris and her. So that's him there at the piano singing while Morris is at the drum kit and Peggy is at the board.

He’s all over the keyboard and doing amazing vocals at the same time.

By now, I don't think anything he did is underrated on the org or most places. He was a wizard. We been knew.

Wait until the Estate releases one of his Piano & Microphone shows. I hope they do.

He was exceptional at it, always keeping time. Watching P&M live it was exactly like all these recordings. Lush piano playing accompanied by seemingky effortless vocals. He could do whatever he wanted with one without affecting the other.
