I'll admit back in the day to liking the Time albums and the Appolonia 6 album better than Purple Rain, which came across as pretty "thin" sounding after 1999.

But then again, Ice Cream Castles was also pretty "thin" sounding compared to the two albums that came before it (though I still really liked it).

Looking back at 1985 I prefer 'The Family' LP & Sheila E's 'A Love Bizarre' over 'Around The World In A Day'. I think 'Condition of the Heart' is an incredible track and amongst his best ballads, but on the whole it's not my style of Prince album. 'The Family' on the other hand is an album I enjoy from start to finish.

I think Exodus is a better album than Come

Definitely Mazarati, I liked it much more than the albums that came out during the NPG/jazz/horns Prince era (I'll never forget the disappointment when I first heard Rainbow Children).

Even though 100MPH was the one hit off the album, I absolutely loved Lonely Girl on Bourbon St and also Strawberry Lover.

And just think .... according to BrownMark, Kiss was basically his song and was supposed to be included on that Mazarati album ... until Prince changed his mind and took it for himself.

Does "New Power Soul" count as a side project? Because I like it way better than a lot of Prince albums.

It's pretty spectacular, yes.

Hmmm. No, not an entire album. Maybe singles from the same year.

Definitely The Family, I can still play this today without it sounding dated at any point.

I like The Time's Pandemonium--the first true collaborative effort between Prince and the guys pictured on the actual cover--a lot more than the companion Graffiti Bridge. And more than most of Prince's own albums too.

In fact, many of Prince's post-2000 albums I think are kind of weak and prefer hearing many of the 80s Jamie Starr/Paisley Park associated artist releases over them.

I liked Chaka Khan's Come 2 My House more than Newpower Soul.

I have to admit....in 1986,I was enjoying the Mazarati album alot more than Prince's Parade.

Mazarati had that Minneapolis funk that I was craving,while the music on Parade was more complex/artistic.I just wanted to party and have fun,lol.

If it were songs instead of albums, definitely.

I can remember wishing Dance Electric and Holly Rock were Prince songs, and wishing Wendy and Lisa's Waterfall were a Revolution song (for some reason).

Definitely The Family project was heavy in rotation during a pivotal time in my life. The songs both lyrically and musically soothed my soul during my college years. To this day all goes silent when that CD is in play. Thanks for asking...good question.

If we're comparing relative like-with-like (eg. not comparing Prince's early '00s jazzy stuff with '80s Time albums)... no, not really.

I *did* like the Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 albums before I was into Prince's main catalogue in a big way, but it would be a bold call for me to say those are better albums than his main early '80s output *now*.

I liked Romance 1600 better than Parade.

I loved the Jill Jones album (full album) and Taja Seville (most songs) also quite a lot back in the days...

And The Time Pandemonium was also on heavy rotation...

But to say it's better than "Purple Rain" ?

The song "The Beautiful Ones" or even "Computer Blue",both, are sxtand alone

better songs than the whole "Ice Cream Castle" album.

Which is far more better than the by then released "Gold" album imho.
