Take Me with U single

I feel like the Take Me with U single wasn't put out with Prince's permission. In a nutshell, it was issued just because Let's Go Crazy had been issued as a double A-side with it in the UK, and Prince was already done with Purple Rain promotion at this point.

On the other hand, the B-side was a wasted choice as it could've been a single of it's own since Prince liked performing it live, and the edit there is too short 4 me.

Not even reading past the first sentence. It was. Case closed.

Same.

I don't know where people get these ideas.

Double A-sides were often popular for various reasons. The record company has certain elbow room with things like this. While the artist has the choice of singles (especially an artist with clout like Prince), they can choose to reissue a single with a different B-side or whatever. It's really not a big deal.

And the OP might want to check dates. The Purple Rain Tour ran until April 1985. The original TMWU single was issued during the tour, January 1985. The double A-side was released in the UK in February, during the tour. So he cearly wasn't "already done with Purple Rain promotion at this point." The single wasn't charting that well in the US compared to the #1s of "Let's Go Crazy" and "When Doves Cry". So putting LGC on it was a needed boost. It worked because it reached #7 in the UK. It was only #25 in the U.S.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I agree with you 100%. Take Me with U was never put out as a single. Whatever misinformation was given out. It needs to be shut down immediately.

Exactly LoveGalore! Furthermore, I bought a Take Me With U tee at the Welcome 2 Canada Tour in 2011 and it had the artwork from the single -- so I doubt that Prince would have produced a tee with artwork for a single that he hadn't approved in 1985. And there was a music video released in 1985, which also appeared on the Prince-sanctioned 20th Anniversary DVD release of PR, Prince could've stopped its inclusion if he didn't approve of it.

I didn't even know the live video even existed... Of course it's on the Estate YT, and this means something... What if a 12" mix of "Take Me With U" existed?

Listening to TMWU on a four-hour drive last night and was reminded what a brilliant piece of pop it is. Still sounds so refreshing and inviting 35 years later. I'm really surprised it didn't chart higher but maybe it only got to #25 because everyone already had the Purple Rain album by this point and therefore didn't need a 45 that had do non-LP B-side.
