Losing guitar pick during Olympics performance of Diamonds And Peatls song was a mistake?

During that particular performance at the begining of guitar solo you can

see guitar pick flying out from Prince hands .

he finished the solo without a pick.

do you think it was a mistake he didnt plan to play without pick but lost it in the moment of excitment ?

Is this what the Org has come to, trying to dissect if/why Prince dropped a guitar pick?! You must've missed the part where he pulled another out of his pocket.

end of story.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He said there’s no such thing as accidents
There must be a meaning behind it

I always thought it looked intentional, and still do. An impromptu moment of inspiration? A rehearsed moment designed to impress? Who knows? But it doesn't look like a mistake in the least.

Actually he did.

I just watched the video. He throws the pick away and then plays with his thumb for like 15-20 seconds. He doesn't pull out another one.

Not sure if it was intentional at the Olympics or not but he throws his pick away at the end of his Empty Room solo at Montreux 2009 and it’s cool as hell.

Is it just me, because I just don't get this post, but what's the big deal about Prince losing a guitar pick and may or may not have played with his hand? Are things really that boring and bad here on the board, that this is the best that we can come up with? lol

Where else in the world would you go to in order to ask such a question? Also, you answered it. Mission accomplished, it seems...

To me, it would be on par with someone saying....."Kicking the microphone stand down during the 1985 AMA performance of Purple Rain was a mistake?" It's because both of these moments were total badass moments that we Prince fans remember vividly, and we know Prince did them on purpose and they were cool as hell!

Consider the source.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No, it was not a mistake. He is clearly in a guitar moment and released the pick as soon as he was finished hitting that last note with it.

IMO, kinda like a "that pick can't handle anymore after that magnifecent note, fly away while I finish the rest of this badass solo with my fingers" kind of attitude.

No one can touch his playing on the guitar. Greatest player to ever hold one.

I think a new subforum for 85 year old Paisley veterans would be cool where they kinda just sit around and quietly revel in their superior knowledge of Prince.
