This is not the same Houston show, it’s a different show. The song head at the end is TOO FUNKY!!

Head is the highlight for me. Awesome Encore

I agree, that "Head" finale is great!

There were probably very few multi-camera videos from this tour. The Summit and Capital Centre were some of only a handful of arenas at the time that had an in-house video system set up.

Most likely this was the best or one of the best quality shows in the vault for this particular tour.

Of course I would have preferred a show from the second leg of the tour, but I'm quite happy with the release. The more we buy that better the chances of getting more in the future.

Buy and make them Xmas presents for all your friends / family !

Watching the DVD right now (bought the box today, but listened to the audio tracks earlier on spotify). Great watch!
I was wondering, however, why the official promotional videos to the singles have not been included on the DVD... there would have been space for that, and it would have been a really nice addition. Has any orger commented on this before?

I watched the Houston video last night and thought the quality of it was pretty darn good. Way better than anything I have seen over the decades of collecting.

This is especially true consiidering the source tape was probably VHS and the concert was not "lit" for video taping purposes.

The audio part of it was equally as good, nice and clear. However I was not crazy about the echo on the sound track that was consistent throughout the show. Don't think I've ever heard any of the other shows from this tour on video sound that way to my ears.

It could be just an "off night" for the sound man (Cubby). At least I hope that is the case.

Overall I am very pleased with the release of the video. Thanks to all involved for this selection.

Yes i think they put a echo on it... sometimes a little bit 2 much. when u know the other concerts they sounds closer.

I am in Australia and have a US copy of the set. Watched this on a modern DVD player and it look d terrible. Then watched it in an old Sony player that had a specific NTSC setting and it looked great. Perhaps watching NTSC on the PAL setting was making it look awful?

I only have one thing to say. Jill Jones I never appreciated how much she added to the 1999 show until this video came along.

Now we need parts 2 and 3 of the triple threat, a multicam of the Time and Vanity 6 to go with this biggrin

Anybody expecting high resolution from a show not filmed for TV is tripping hard lol. This show, like every show that took place at The Summit, was shot from the arena’s in-house video equipment. So, mostly what you saw back then, is what you get today, besides minor improvements. It’s all up to the VHS tape’s condition upon restoration, which is still quite impressive for 1982.

That the picture of this "dvd" to be so crappy is one thing, more or less bearable, even when 15% of the show is unlit.
.
But what I didn't expect was the sound so crappy.
Terrible echo and terrible distorted sound that ruin everything.
The sound is like when you put your fingers in your hear and you would put the volume up. Sometimes you can't even distinct the words he is speaking/singing.
I even suspect a problem of lipsynching, but the picture is so crappy you couldn't tell.
.
And last but not least, the wig he is wearing during this era is too distractive on stage and can't be taken seriously in a one hour concert.
.
More complaints about this fucked-up job :
- no menu
- no music videos
- the price

I think they meant the sync between audio and video, not that Prince was lip syncing.

Of course. Prince wasn't on playback, but it occurred to me there was a slight delay between the picture and the sound.
.
Once again hard to tell since the picture and sound are so poor in quality. I have the VHS from Batman ( a present of my 1990 Christmas) and it s a blu ray compared to that piece of crap.
.
And sorry, but of course he is wearing a wig in this era, just like in Purple Rain and Raspberry Beret.

Everybody knows Prince was wearing wigs and hairpieces, just like most of the show business at the time, especially for black people.
More easy and less time to comb on stage.
But you still can believe what you want lol

So I guess he put the wig on for the taped rehearsals in the warehouses too, right? That would explain how he has the same tangled mop in the posthumous videos.

Exactly. His stupid ass trolling about the couple of times Prince had to wear a wig for reshoots or one video gives him endless fodder to troll people with. Joke's on him - we all know he's a troll. Not even a good one.

Same with the afro thing - if Prince was gonna invest in a wig to keep a certain consistent look, I am absolutely convinced he would keep that shit conditioned and combed and styled.

That perm falling apart after a few months of performing makes it clear he ain't wearing a wig.

And the fact that we literally watched it grow out over the years once he stopped getting a straight perm on his hair. Like he's going to buy progressive-length wigs to mimic growth???

Here's one guy's perspective... This video is many things. But chiefly, it is a historical document.

It's 1982. This was the technology available to Prince in that venue at that time. Plus, it was 1982. Thus, lots of smoke and neon and some harsh lighting effects. And, it was 1982. At that time, Prince was into the neo-Blade-Runner-ish-ness of it all.

Did I mention that it was 1982? It’s not supposed to look like 2019.

Do all of the quality issues cited here exist? Sure. But who cares? Here’s how to fix them: Put this video on your largest available screen. Then, send the audio through your good speakers or headphones. Finally, turn the volume up. See? Fixed!

This is a document of a moment. And that moment was 1982.

I appreciate this moment. Man, was that good. “Head” as the closer was unexpected #FIRE!

The above is pretty stupid.

There is no reason why the GOAT cannot have his concerts restored and presented properly.

Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and many other artists have near perfect videos from way before 1982.

Sorry we have had this happen twice now. First that low quality dvd in the purple rain deluxe now a crap 1999 dvd

Try watching it on a projector with a 100 inch screen...i have better bollywood bootlegs than these dvds...

Real dissapointment and disgrace to be honest.

it was reported bydirector of purple rain that prince cut off all his hair immediately after filming wrapped, he had to wear a wig in reshoots, that may be where the confusion comes in, this concert is long before the wig wearing days of syracuse
