Come: Monaco version

As many "Prince vs. WB" researchers will know, Prince brought in copies of Come and a proto-Gold Experience (the one with Strength/Angie/The Jam and sort-of intro segues (319 of course stayed like that), presembly cause he didn't want to bring the spoiler-riffic Spring 1994 version) during his Monanco Music Awards trip for reviewing purposes, complete with "Sex Clothes 4 The New Power Generation" placeholders.

The Come config he brought was a mix of the March 1994 test pressing and the final version. We don't know all the tracks (unlike "The Gold Album", and some tracks were shared across both it seems) but I'm 100% sure it was like this (unsure of track order):

1. Come (The Beautiful Experience version)

2. Endorphine Machine

3. Dark

4. Space

5. Pheromone

6. Loose!

7. Papa

8. Race

9. Solo

10. Let It Go

11. Orgasm (full length)

12. Come ("Reprise", actually the 11-minute final album version)

13. Strays Of The World (hidden after various tracks of silence)

Would've this made a better album? Unsure if TMBGITW (by "The Artist") was on here even if Warner asked them to...

Both versions of Come you have listed are remixes - the original version of Come is a standard funk/rock track, not techno and not the house 12" mix he put on the album. I suspect this tracklist's order is very off - Dark would be unlikely to arrive so early on the mix (when the standard flow of those first 5 songs rarely changed - Interactive/Come/Endorphin/Space/Pheromone) and I'm not convinced he would have 2 versions of Come on one record, plus Orgasm/Poem not bookending the record at either the start or finish seems off. These are just some of the standard placements for nearly every "configuration" he ever made.

To quote princevswarners.blogspot.com:

“First comes the Prince album, which includes Endorphinmachine, Come and Dark,” noted Alan Light. “prince skips back and forth between tracks. It all sounds strong – first rate, even – but he seems impatient with it, like it’s old news.”
"Track list unknown, but includes Come (The Beautiful Experience version), Endorphinmachine and Dark"
"Supposedly this configuration included two versions of Come, concluding with the maxi-single version of Come which would then continue into the hidden track, Strays Of The World."

Yeah, it's unlikely they're listing those three songs sequentially from any configuration. Further removing this from any real potential release is that Prince would never have put the same song twice on an album.

Edit to say: never put two variants of the same song on an album - different than the reprise of New Power Generation.

The way this version segues into Endorphinmachine on 10,000 Wallpaper is sublime. The sequence on there of Interactive - Come - Endorphin - Space... drool3

Yes! I love it. In fact, I can't even understand why he didn't stick with this sequence (though it's been said Warner wanted that version of Come as a single, Prince refused, and thus we get the remixes for The Beautiful Experience and the album).

A Come album with Strays of the World as the closing song definitely would´ve made the Come album feel more complete and better in my opinion. I like that song a lot and when you listen to it and hear the "Come!" at the end of it you can´t help but feel that something is missing on the Come album.

Check out the boot called Platinum. There is a sequence of Come which starts out with moans and guitar bursts from Orgasm, shifts into the house/techno version for minutes then fades into: If you would like to continue the Interactive Experience, please press Come" Then the second half of the album version which fades and goes straight into Strays of the World. It works brilliantly, and I have often wondered if this wasn't from an actual sequence. It's unique to this bootleg release as far as I know.

Now with stuff like the 10,000 Wallpaper bootleg and the track ordering of both well-known 1994 configs used as hints, here's a fixed version of my allerged tracklist:

1. Poem/Orgasm

2. Interactive

3. Come (original verison)

4. Endorphinmachine (original version)

5. Space

6. Pheromone

7. Loose

8. Papa

9. Race

10. Dark

11. Solo

12. Let It Go

13. Come (11-minute version from the final config)

14. Strays Of The World (hidden after various tracks of silence)

Now connecting this with the "Gold Album" thing, it's possible that TMBGITW might've been included here (as the 4:36 version from the TBE maxi-single). Plus, Prince played an NPG Operator segue before Space in concerts at this point, so it might've included them (despite being rumoured to be for The Gold Album).

Don't think TMBGITW fits as a Come tracks. Kills the vibe. Also don't think the 12" house mix of Come belongs in the tracklist.

There are songs like What's My Name and Dolphin that would be better matches here (though Dolphin ended up receiving a lot of production polish and sounds brighter than Come now).

The thing is, I don't think Prince making a mixtape of his material is indicative of a real legit configuration. Prince made a lot of mixes of his material to show off. I have zero confidence he would out two versions on there like that.
