Beck releases "Paisley Park Sessions," including Prince medley, recorded at PP.

Not sure where this should go... (I haven't seen anything posted here, and Beck isn't really a "Prince-related artist") so, apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Beck has released a new EP recorded at Paisley Park ("Paisley Park Sessions"), including a Prince medley:

Cool. Thanks for posting. I think Beck is a very innovative and talented artist. His music has always shown he has been inspired somewhat by Prince. I'm thinking Midnite Vultures in particular. I think he must have a lot of respect for Prince. Looking forward to his new album.

This could be an interesting direction of the new Paisley Park. Bring LIFE and creativity back into that building with fresh live music and art.

Great idea to open the studio to artist and have them produce some form of tribute. Rappers could use the defunct "Sample set" that is surely somewhere in the vault biggrin

So great to see PP finally being used for what it is - A RECORDING STUDIO!

Beck is awesome and his love and admiration for P is amazing

no no no .. this is awful .. if this were a real tribute it would be an obscure song done in a new quirky way but instead its just the prince version with self entitled beck singing .. dude is just exploiting prince for publicity .. he should go back to ripping off prince on his own songs instead of this kareoke vomit fest .. sorry beck .. u got a couple good songs but u are not the torch bearer hear .. uve done nothing to earn that honor ... please no more butchered covers of prince from anyone ..

Why does he need to 'earn' the honor of paying tribute to an artist he clearly loves? Gatekeeping fans are always the worst.

its not a tribute .. it is a promotion angle for himself .. cheap

Whatever. Even if he recorded your personal favorite Prince songs and did zero promo for the EP, you'd still find some excuse to rip on him rolleyes

Does Beck have any other records like Midnight Vultures? I tried being a Beck fan for awhile, but I got tired of him cycling between those sad-bastard forlorn acoustic records he always does and his usual Dust Brothers-produced junk-funk albums. Midnight Vultures seemed to be the only true outlier last I checked....

And the B-sides to that one were even better. Check out "This Is My Crew" or "Arabian Nights." Fantastic.

This is a series that Amazon Music is doing. Artist go to a studio they admire & cover songs relating to that room. I though it was cool he did a Medley rather than one song... Would have been cooler to have him cover a song from the vault, but i mean? I definetly don't see it as cheap promotion, considering it's an amazon music exclusive.

^^ Tropicalia from 1 of those sad forlorn albums (Mutations) is damn funky imho. Have never heard This Is My Crew tho typing. I roll with the junk funk most of the time but that's me. In no hurry to hear him do Prince hits. Hell I was mad the only time I saw P himself do them ☚ī¸. Where It's At sounded good tho I might check it out when it becomes more readily available 😀.

Sounds good to me. Re: Midnite Vultures - it's a great album, both musically, and vocally. And it's not the powerhouse "party" album people make it out to be. That second side is a trip that runs on sounds from country to trip hop to rock to Prince (being his own genre, of course).

That said, my opinion is that the quintessential gambini for Beck is Guero. It pretty much runs the gamut of what Beck does. Or, did, up to the point of its release...haven't heard the new one or the release before this one. As a performer/frontman, Beck probably hit his high point when he took on that Midnite Vulture persona.
