Problems concerning "Prince 4Ever"

1. Why the hell were people complaining that "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" was an notable "exclusion" from this compilation? It shouldn't even be here (due to master ownership), and it should stay like that. It's not on the Legacy sampler too cause it doesn't represent the peroid as it was technically released in 1994 (the album and single mixes were made around the same time I think). It should be noted that the video was up on the official Estate YT for a while piror to Sony taking over control of the channel and simply priviating it.

2. I don't think it was nessacary to place the entire bulk of pre-1982 hits here, since people outside of the US won't remember them, and ironically they're pretty much "lost-to-radio" over there. The Very Best Of Prince (a single-disc version of The Hits 1&2) is mainly 1982-1991 focused, but it has "I Wanna Be Your Lover" for no reason whatsoever.

3. Why is "Batdance" here and not the other Batman OST singles? I believe it's because the compiler read Wikipedia and just slapped it there. Partyman and Scandalous are true classics however... SAD!

P.S. I assume the Batman OST is the only album to be excluded from the expanded Legacy deal cause it's the only "proper" soundtrack he did, as PR/Parade/GB are just soundtracks to his "own" movies and should be included. Plus, Sony are not going to delete YouTube views as When Doves Cry (7") and Kiss are perhaps the most popular videos on the Estate YT...

I never seen anyone here complain like this besides the first little complaint. And its simple, TMBGITW is one of his biggest singles from the later part of his career so its a no brainer. Unfortunately people are idiots and greedy so their petty asses sue and there becomes a legal dispute.

And why does a compilation have to be 82-91??? Some of his best classics were pre-82. I Wanna Be Your Lover and Soft & Wet were his two first hits. you can’t have a proper Prince legacy compilation set without his early work.

My number 1 complaint is that this release was obviously rushed. They didn’t remaster anything. Everything sounds the same as they did on The Hits, or some tracks like I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man come in louder than the last track because they took some from the Ultimate release. Ultimate cd came out in like 2006 so obviously its louder than The Hits discs. If all the tracks were leveled at the same volume then it would be better

Moonbeam Levels is obviously from a tape. I can’t wait to hear how it sounds on the upcoming remaster, hopefully they found the actual master tracks

Why shouldn't TMBGITW be there? It was released on Warner Brothers. Why shouldn't Batdance be there? It's a #1 single. Why shouldn't his pre-1999 hits be there? THEY WERE HITS. He's an American recording artist - who gives a shit if people outside the US don't know those songs (spoiler: they do). What are you even talking about people don't remember I Wanna Be Your Lover? This is an anthology release. It is as it should be.

Batdance wasn't on The Hits/B-Sides, Ultimate, The Very Best Of Prince or 4Ever. Has to do with all of those voice samples.

Right... I know. But it was still a #1 hit so it belongs on an anthology.

To clear up:

1. Prince got permission from Warner to distribute the single release (original 1993/4 version) on Bellmark Records in the US and Edel internationally.

2. TMBGITW was on a Warner release (the Gold Experience) but they only had distribution rights to the album, not ownership of that album.

It's "song ownership", nothing to do with the lawsuit

Plus, was TMBGITW on the original Tidal issue of The Gold Experience piror to the Legacy deal?

I am not sure how any of that legalese is relevant. The collection is a GH anthology of his hit singles on WB albums. TGE is a WB album. The cut should be there. The only reason it isn't is because of litigation.

Indeed. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" is literally the only Prince song my mom knows front-to-back and can recite at will. It was a mega-hit.... I'd argue better remembered than his post-84 hits honestly.

1)TMBGITW was a major hit, therefore should be on a greatest hits compilation. No one buying this wants or needs to hear a load of tedious nonsense about master ownership.
2) That's nice. You're not pointing out a problem in the release though.
3) Batdance is there because it was a number 1 single. I'd like if Partyman was on there myself.

No doubt 4Ever is a flawed release, but sure what else is new.

Why would anyone complain about a greatest hits compilation?

They're made for the mainstream, who dont own the artist's albums.

There's an art to a well made compilation (think ChangesOneBowie or Death to the Pixies for good examples), I think Prince has so far resisted a satisfying greatest hits. Whether there's even a place for compilations in the age of streaming is worth asking as well.

...but 200 Balloons was on the third disc, however...

Way to break it down for the obvious-impaired. highfive lol
