An idea

In 2008, to celebrate Michael Jackson's 50th birthday, Sony issued "King of Pop" compolations featuring the best songs as voted by local fans. The Australian one was the first to go into a voting phase, and I believe the fact that you could give Michael a 50th birthday message is one reason why Sony's Australian leg has been extremely quiet over Michael since his death 10 years ago (refusing to issue his songs on VA compilations etc.)

Sony Australia tried doing the same thing in 2012, but with Elvis Presley and AM sponsorship (voting from a list of every single Elvis track), and of course it was just-as-sucessful.

Fast-foward to now. Prince has died, and Sony has brought the rights to his post-1994 material. In other news, it will extend to Warner-owned albums in 2021 (although it's debated if the non-Batman soundtracks will be included or not (it's common for a soundtrack to be issued on a label not affilated with the film's disburitors)). With this happening, maybe Sony can do the same "2CD compolation as voted by you" thing but with Prince, which would also make a nice showcase for the extended deal. However, all Legacy reissues I run into in Australia are European exports.

P.S. TMBGITW reissued on CD (not digitally) finally? (it might be true)

and there are already too many compilations, including "anthology".

no. no more compilations. Prince isn't MJ, and moreover I don't think Prince fans are going to put up with the same kind of nonsense (see: endless compilations, see: Xscape Disc 1, see: Cascio tapes).

What is a compolation?

PS We don't need another goddamn compilation anyway. That's what we have iTunes or Spotify playlists. Make ya own.

No thanks. Compilations aren't fun for me as a consumer and the poor, sad state of MJ's library (being riddled with 485 different compilations each with 1-4 "new" tracks) is devastating as a fan. I would not want Prince's music raped and pillaged that way.

No thank you. I already have all of his album tracks. I would have no interest in buying a compilation unless if was of unreleased songs or alternate takes.
