I think it was Don Batts who talked about the earlier version of "Baby I'm A Star." He compared it to the PR version and how blown out the released version was, but the earlier version was funkier and more simplistic (or whatever adjective he used).

With Prince recording everything, I can't imagine these songs weren't put to tape first. "Computer Blue" went through a couple of live vs tape incarnations as well.

We should all have the copy of Baby I'm A Star's studio demo by now. It's fun and quite bouncy, but certainly less grandiose and less of an event than the released version.

I've wondered about that. He was so prolific writing every note in that movie (except Michel's score) that I'd almost believe more than he recorded some of those parts specifically for the film. It's an interesting note to figure out, though.
