Prince as a producer Prince did great production work on many of his output , he made hits for other artists ,gave them (semi* successful careers but what he didnt do is he didnt support their individuality as an artists. All Prince produced artists have the same sound, same vocal mannerism as Prince. I know that Prince wanted to create a music scene centered around him but he was in a way doing what he didnt want to be done to him. Remember that he refused Maurice White from Earth Wind And Fire because Prince wanted to create his sound. That is my only criticism regarding Prince as a producer.
From a professional standpoint he did great job regarding quality of the songs, musicianship, arrangements of the music he produced for other artists, but it was always on the expense of the artists he produced. There are a lot of music producers who are far less equiped as Prince was in terms of overall knowledge, regarding production values but yet they still dont repress artists individuality. At the same time i gotta admit that at the end of his career as a producer Prince did some production work where he tried to give the artists support in finding their own sound. Judith Hill,Andy All,Bria ,all the albums he produced for those lady no matter what you think of the songs dont sound at all like Prince wanted to make them sound like him.

Eh, disagree, the Andy Allo and Judith Hill albums sound exactly like Prince, or at least his NPG sound, at the time of recording. It's been a while since I listened to the Bria album but I don't remember it standing out particularly from his other stuff at the time.

but that NPG sound was not a real Prince sound.it was the sound he was interested in . so you think he was still giving them Prince sound but the sound had changed or maybe lost its own essence?

He had a latter-day NPG sound that you can hear on these albums, and also HitnRun 2 and other bits and pieces. I'm not saying it's my favourite period but it was what he was into at the time. He said himself the Judith Hill album was supposed to be Sly & the Family Stone-ish, and I kind of hear that in there, but it mostly sounds like the NPG to me.

I think as he got older he allowed artists alot more space to be themselves. Lizzo said she felt respected by him and was allowed full freedom on Plectrun Electrum (I believe it was)

I always had the impression that P was like a teacher, taught him to fly and when he thought they were ready he let them fly alone hoping they would put into practice what he had taught them

So agree. He was generous and patient. Imagine if P was your teacher? Teacher with benefits....hehehe 🤣 [Edited 11/29/19 13:07pm] Peaceandlove☮️💜☮️💜

If he had been my teacher I would not have missed a single day of school and finished high school [Edited 11/30/19 11:18am]
