Empty Room 1985 piano basic version

Prince Empty Room (Unreleased Basic Version) Prince - All Vocals & Instruments, Except Where Noted Bobby Z - Drums Basic Tracking At Washington Avenue Warehouse, Eden Prairie, MN, USA August 4th 1985

The trax (marvelous version) is circulating for years , this piano/drums/vocals/keyboards version is faded up around 1.58 ....i'm sure that a much longer version is in the Vault or in the hands of collectors ?

Any thoughts about it ?

cool

I wished songs like these were released during the period they were created.

I love that it was recorded @ or right after BobbY Z's wedding.

The stated (~1:58) version is from ca. 1992, for the 'I'll Do Anything' soundtrack. Any similarly 'basic' version (a neologism of the estate on recent releases) from 1985, does not circulate among the mortals.

.

The 1994/1995 'complete' version is presumed to be a partially enhanced version of the original 1985 take.

.

He recorded this track, along with the likewise guitar-oriented 'Alexa de Paris' & 'Question of U', in July and August of that year, perhaps under pressure from WB after hearing early cassette sequences of the 'Parade'/UTCM material.

.

The IDA take is 'stripped down' and chilling and interesting to hear, but a little too efficient. The intended purpose is as a musical cue. It simply cannot outshine the brilliance of the 1985/1994 version.

It's not even enhanced. It's literally just the 1985 take, pulled out of the vault, given a video likely because it was still fresh in his memory after the IDA sessions. It also is mildly reminiscent of the guitar-heavy stuff he was doing at the time.

This may be correct, but [in my view, at least] the mixing is beyond 1985 conventions.

Yes, I thought the short piano version was from the I'll Do Anything sessions.

.

I've always been intrigued by the 94 video. After seeing it on the big screens before the Ultimate Live Experience shows in 95 I'll always associate it with that period even though Pvault say it uses the original 85 music, which I was surprised by.
