Per Nilson Vault book - is it worth buying?

Hello everyone,

First post for me. I have been thinking about hunting down a copy of the Vault book for a while. This morning I saw one listed. Do any of you own a copy?

Is it worth it?

Thanks 🙏

Moderation note (l'ange bleu):

On the basis that you are a prospective purchaser simply making a general enquiry, the sale link you have posted has been removed, as you are not seeking to make the sale yourself. Many people will be aware of The Vault, but here is a link to a description: http://www.princevault.co..._The_Vault

For future reference, an owner of such an item, who made the item for sale could post a reference to their sale in accordance with Forum Rules in the Marketplace forum: https://prince.org/msg/9

I've heard that that particular ebay seller is very dishonest, I would recommend steering clear.

Sure, but the question is about whether the book is any good?

No, definitely not worth it.

I would say no... Well not more than $100 or so.

I can tell you don’t own it. Prior to the internet, the book was THE Prince reference bible, and still contains a stupendous amount of Prince minutiae not easily found on the net. It’s also a door stopper of a book that would take months to read. Is it worth some of the prices people tend to ask? Probably not... but to say it’s worth around $100 tells me you don’t have it...and maybe a bit jealous of those who do.

I just purchased it ($75.; too much), I am enjoying it so far. It is very dense.

I would love a high quality book (Duane Tudahl level) about Prince in his very musically- formative years in No.Minnie...Pre-Chris Moon.

That is for you to decide based on budget wise. Sometimes good things tend to be worth buying. Keep in mind too there were Prince fans bought items through auctions and etc in the thousands so I guess those people would kill to buy something around 100 bucks lol.

I read that book ages ago and it was a good book.

It is highly regarded book among us Princeologists.

Since there are a few copies that are available, I would buy it.

That is why I tend and like read early Prince/associate interviews he opened up more than his later interviews such as his mother and father etc. It is like that with many celebrities they tend to be open more when they weren't famous then once they got famous they became isolate because of fame and their crafted management team.

I do not have an actual physical copy, but I do have a pdf of it--so maybe I am under valuing it.

If you have a copy maybe you are over valuing it? But what do you think it is worth?

Interesting, thanks. Yes the Tudahl book was a great read, was hoping this is of a similar caliber. I think it could be worth a bid, sounds like it has loads of nuggets inside, from the perspective of it being a collectors item as well I guess it might make sense. Thanks again everyone.

It is known to be on the level of Duane Tudahl's book.

Tudahl worked on "The Vault" but "The Vault" is a very different book. The Vault is mostly a list of recordings, performances, videos, and appearances.

"Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions" is a day to day account but with details and reads as more of a naritive.
