Macy Gray talking about Prince

In a interview with Macy Gray Macy expresses her admiration for Prince. Here the part of the interview concerning Prince.

Humo: What character you wanted to be, when you weren't crazy Macy yet?

I loved 'Purple Rain', but I didn't want to be that woman, what's her name ...

Right. I didn't want to be that that woman that only was a slave for his needs, I wanted to be Prince himself.

Humo: I wish I could see you and Prince together on a stage: His voice and gitarsolos together with your voice and attitude and both your grooves ... It would be great.

I don't say no (smile). I would like to sing Oblivion with him. I really get lost in the groove on that one. The first concert I ever saw was some from the Purple Rain tour. I'll never forget that show.

Humo: Have you ever played something from Prince ?

Only when I was twelve, when I sang along with the songs in 'Purple Rain'. During the rehearsals for the next tour we played some covers, but it was pure for fun. I pushed my musicians to play Britney Spears' 'Baby One More Time' for me. I really like that song. I tried to give him more soul, but my homies laughed with me.
