When 2 R In Love video

Just found out about it a few days ago. Of course it's borning, typos and all, but I'm wondering if I could have a transcript of what Beavis and Butt-Head thought of the video when they watched it, asides from the fact that they said it was recorded inside Prince's butt...

What are you smoking over there? razz

The video, as I remember it, for that song was nothing but a blank screen. WB tried to use it to promote The Black Album, and Prince wasn't having it, so he just released a blank video. Don't know who did the subtitles.

As far as the MTV show, that's a different beast and has nothing to do w/ Prince's input, TMK. If you could figure out they said it was recorded inside Prince's butt, then you can transcribe the rest for yourself, I would imagine.

If it wasn't recorded in 1987 with the band, then it should not have happened. And I'm glad it didn't

True. I can't see a video with Sonny, Tommy, Michael, and Morris, when we know it should be Sheila, Boni, Matt, Levi, and Mico.

Well technically it was just Prince who recorded the song in ‘87, so he could have done some kind of solo video, but of course he wouldn’t have since he wanted nothing to do with that album once he pulled it back in ‘87.

yes, but it would not have been 1987 Prince, we would have gotten Typhoon Prince instead /with a Tony M rap lol I I know he wasn't around by then lol

right, that sorta why some songs on Graffiti Bridge and Pink Cashmere released way outside of the time of the recording energy didn't always vibe right with me

Oh right!! Didn’t think about that biggrin Plus, Prince was so far beyond that music by the early 90’s. Although I much prefer W2RIL over My Name Is Prince and others during that time smile

It's going to sound like I'm trolling, but I really think this is probably the best video of his career. And in 2019 I'm surprised someone hasn't reappraised this as one of the more daring/unique/bold/artistic decisions ever as far as music videos go period, not just within the realm of Prince but music at large. It's very stark.

.

At the very least it's pretty lame there's not a single copy on the official channel, I'm not even saying we need it remastered in HD but where is this thing officially.

So the subtitles for sure weren't Prince's idea? I still love the video concept but the subtitles I feel really put it over the top.

Is this what you're looking for? (link removed on request)

It's taken from MTV2 (as shown by the ident at the start).

Keep in mind, this was a black video, that someone played with the closed captioning turned on the screen, and rerecorded it with the misspelled lyrics. Then had the nereve to release it and call it a video.

This "video" had no Prince input and should never be considered as one of his music videos. Stupid and lazy on the WBs part.

Hah, it's like the video equivalent of John Cage's song "4'33".

If Prince has nothing to do with creating the video then I would imagine it will not be released on his official channel.

I see. So he had nothing to do with the video for "The One" either? Is that why the estate glossed over that one, too?

And he had no part in deciding to release a black screen "non-video"? Because the contrary has been intimated in any discussion on the subject I've ever read.... Because even if the extent of his contribution was waving his hand with a wince and sighing to "put nothing on the screen" he had something to do with the video....

But your take reminds me when someone questioned why the estate would release material in the improper tape speed, or taken from cassettes, and maybe it's our bootlegs and original copies that are off. Solid take.

Prince wasn't the one to decide on a black screen in lieu of a genuine video?

How much Prince input was in the NC2U and Holly Rock videos on the official channels, btw?

If it still exists, hopefully it's included in the inevitable "Parade" Deluxe probably released in 2021, the 35th anniversary of it...I hope the Yokohama Japan final Prince & The Revolution concert will be included as well.

I saw the really crappy fan footage of the Yokohama show, but would love to see professional footage of that one.

I read somwhere (can't remember where, maybe the Vault book or an issue of Uptown or Princevault?), since you first informed me of that video, that it was indeed intended for shooting but canceled at the last second, so apparently it doesn't exist. If i find the source again I'll tell you.
EDIT: It's indeed on the Pvault entry for the song: "There were tentative plans to shoot a video for the song while in France for the filming of Under The Cherry Moon, but in the end the shoot never took place, although storyboards for scenes in the video were created.“. Sorry to rain on your Parade (pun intended), I know you really wanted to see it.
