Prince had a great range of vocal expression, and he wasn’t afraid to get a little “spicy” at times and employ some dissonance. The best example I can think of is towards the end of “Beautiful Strange”. The dissonance here fits beautifully with the concept and feel of the song. There are other examples of this kind of thing, but I can’t think of them right now.
