The OP, by the way, wasn't asking about the existence of the recording; s/he took Prince's word for it. The OP asked if anyone knew any details about the track. Absent those, the subject is open to speculation. If that parade is too sunny for you to piss on, go find another.

. By extension.. .
. If it doesn't exist, then what can we do? .
. He was a gemini en thus could vary in opinions... .
. It it does exist somewhere it should be around 20 minutes in length I read. The title is 'Adore'. No other info I could locate this soon. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

. I've listened to the podcast yesterday and I didn't hear anyone mentioning "20 mins" regarding Adore. They say that when asked about it, Prince responded with "you haven't even heard Adore, because that's not the full version on the album", but I don't recall anyone mentioning a specific length the full version could be. So a longer version definitely exists, but we don't know how long it is. . Keep in mind that the vast majority of Prince's analog multitrack masters were taped at 30ips (with only a few exceptions such as 'America' and '17 Days' that were recorded at 15ips) and it means that a standard reel of multitrack tape has a playing time of 16.5 minutes. . . Kares - I'm sure they had ways around the tape length, engineers transition over to new one, edits etc, how do you explain then the existence of the 30 minute version of I Would Die 4 U which I have heard?

Just want to go on record that I love the full 21:46 of America. It has to be, by far, the song that I spend the most time listening to of any Prince track (and I mean in total, not per song, as the War would win that) . Especially during some very stressful times when I had trouble sleeping. I'd put on America and slowly let it have me drift off. As a project I've been trying to edit a version together that takes out the objectionable lyrics. Extraloveable isn't nearly as controversial, as far as I'm concerned. Everything else seems to overstay its welcome, especially the full take of America. The full 21min version is way too long indeed. I edited it down to the first 13mins. After that it gets kinda boring. But the first 13 are very enjoyable. Yeah, the kind of thing you only listen to fully once, if that. Lol. But I did an edit of that too, coming in at a little over 11 mins, but there was a lot of cutting and pasting going on to bring all the best parts together. Prince has a lot of edit-friendly material like that. Oh, they've been quite transparent regarding Adore and the 20 min version. I've heard Captain and the words "Adore, 20 minutes, would blow my head off!" [Edited 9/28/19 0:46am]

. They didn't claim Prince told them anything about how long it is, only that the album version is not the full recording. Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

At least we can all agree that, if it does exist, a 20 minute version would be over the top and probably wear the song out. I don't know anyone who regularly listens to The War, Junk Music, or the full America take regularly. No song is that interesting.

Not as crazy 4 The War n America but would bump them gladly if the mood struck. Junk Music however gets many spins from me. Love it all 63 minutes . 20 minutes of my fave Adore would b heaven For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Wasn't the story that he recorded long versions of every song, and everything got edited down from that...then built backk up longer again for the 12" versions? Susan Rogers claimed something like that but what's been leaked or released doesn't really show evidence of that.
Adore does sound like it could be the first few minutes of a bigger song and longer with break downs, and a long ass sax solo (we don't need). Plus the music doesn't really go anywhere, but the vocals start to get really interesting before it fades. I could see it getting more bluesy with screaming. Doubt it's 20 minutes unless it's a rehearsal, or he did something like the Man Opera (which would explain where that idea even came from and make sense). Even N.E.W.S. were kept at 14 minutes long.
(I have to agree about America getting boring and Computer Blue being the only long version tha's really solid though, so far)

A longer version of adore does exist, not sure if there is a 20 mins version though! And at the time prince stated that he was listening to a lot of Luther Vandross when he created this song. (I don’t think that the song is necessarily influenced by the vandross sound, but interesting nonetheless).
