It now occurs to me that the estate did not put as much thought into the Purple Rain Deluxe set as they have with the forhcoming 1999 Deluxe. The fact that they put efforts into the 2 vault discs, breaking them up by timeline is by itself more effort then what they did with the Vault disc on the PR set. The PR Deluxe disc 2 has songs that were NOT intended for the PR album. Of course they did have amazing Electric Inter and Love & S but the latter was not even intended for the album. Neither were a numbef of other songs. Also, the sound on the vault disc is not great...I think Originals had more work done to make it sound better.

Also, the remaster of the PR album was very poor. I think anyone who cares of this kind of thing will agree.

Now the positive - the estate is listening to us and therefore, I am really hoping for a great remaster.

For those in the know...was it ever confirmed whether the vault tracks on PR Deluxe were from multi tracks (and mixed) or from cassette?

The facts haven't changed. When PR Deluxe was released, it had not been long enough for them to dig out appropriate multis. These tracks were sourced from in-house session tapes.

As I have mentioned in a previous post on this, A Purple Rain Super Deluxe is surely in the works, if not already done. It could even be the next one that drops.

Purple Rain, above all else, is the Prince cash cow. They would be nuts not to drop a beautiful pristine comprehensive super deluxe set of this. The fact that PR Deluxe was just out 2 years ago means nothings. There is no saturation when it comes to Purple Rain. I mean all anyone has to do these days abyway is promote the vinyl and people flock to it like a crack addict needing a fix.

Estate manager Michael Howe confirms 1999 will be followeed by more super deluxe editions of other Prince albums.Further volumes of Originals,the brilliant compilation of Prince’s previously-unreleased vesrions of songs he gave to other artists,will also happen. “There could be other variations on that theme”, Howe reveals.”Whether it’s a Prince covers album or a body of work that’s not Prince proper but has his DNA and is thematically linked, we’ll see”

As with the welter of extra songs on 1999, further expanded releases will feature all of Prince’s material from the album period.”We try to include everything we can that points the most complete picture of that period” says Howe.

Could that include revisiting Purple Rain? The 2015 reissue released while Prince was alive was nowhere as extensive as the 1999 set. “I can’t get into specifics on Purple rain” Howe admists “ but if you’re asking for my opinion, I do think there’s a much more complete album, and it should be rendered in a much more complete way;”
