Hot Summer is as cringey as it gets. Wedding Feast, of course. He considered releasing that New Power Generation EP containing the dreadful Robin Power track A Positive Place and that is pretty fucking cringey. "Get freaky, let da head bob." His Jamaican rap on Sun Moon & Stars. Nearly every song on Art Official Age. Laydown is extra cringe yet somehow the yoda thing went viral.
An artist as campy as Prince is bound to corner the market on cringe. [Edited 9/26/19 14:55pm]

He liked the Vikings. It wasn't a joke. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I like what you say. By “indie“ you mean that he didn't care about conventions, right?
Low and dumb... CALL THE LAW - both the „remix“ and the video are just... crap, ridiculous... the swimming-pool scene... how could he be that pathetic?

I was at my local independent record store and Because of this thread I went and bought D and P Studio Beginnings boot. No Rosie or Tony On songs. The title song is really missing that oomph and Rosie’s oomph is what I think made it a hit but it’s still nice hearing the song without her shrill singing in it. Same with Willing and Able sans Rosie and Tony. [Edited 9/27/19 13:38pm] "Climb in my fur."

It's Prince and he's funky 😍 I've never understood the concept of a song "aging" or sounding "dated". Maybe it's because 99% of the music I listen to is from before I was born but the way I see it, if it's good it's good.

homesquid said: I hadn't listened to "Diamonds & Pearls" or "Love Symbol" for awhile so this weekend I popped them in. These albums have not aged well at all to me. Some of the corniest and silliest lyrics of his career and Prince + rap is a terrible marriage. He's done fine at times but some of this attempts are just embrassing.
Most of the hits still standout though- Get Off, Cream, D&P, Insatiable, 7, Sexy MF, Morning Papers but I found myself skipping half the tracks on these albums and I used to never do that. Anyone else find themselves loving these albums less than they used to? [Edited 9/21/19 14:36pm] Yes. A lot of Prince’s 90’s music hasn’t aged well at all. I think the Come and Chaos & Disorder albums have aged the best.

I understand many long term fans may not have liked the new direction and Tony M but I still think on the whole that live band sound, on Goldnigga also, is pure ear candy. . As Trivial says there is still a few classic tracks aside from the rapping across the albums; And God Created Woman being the best of the bunch for me. . Tony gets a lot of shit on here but I think he worked well in moderation on the likes of Gett Off, The Max, The Sacrifice Of Victor and Willing And Able. Prince didn't need to use him on Love 2 The 9's though, that's for sure. . If we are talking cringey Prince; look no further than his shivering and 'I'm so cold, hold me' shit on Do Me, Baby. I almost pissed my pants when I first heard that
Fight me over that last line. I love every bit of Do Me, Baby, and nobody's gonna change my mind.

The 'Goldnigga' track banter between TM and that southern belle is fully cringy. "I like to watch."

Am I the only one who thinks Tony M's rap isn't that bad? Geez he is no Big Daddy Kane or Tupac or Nas but still I heard worse rappers.
But I like D&P. I used to be those 80s only Prince fan but I appreciated his 90s and beyond.

But I like D&P. I used to be those 80s only Prince fan but I appreciated his 90s and beyond. He is hugely inspired by BDK I think. I love the Goldnigga title track part 1,2,3. Especially the parts "Well, it's on" and "talk to me baby, tell me who's in the muthafuckin' house" accompanied by that tight band. Makes me Shriver of horniness just listening to the arrangement. And even more proud that Prince is the genius behind it all. And what about that album name Goldnigga. No one else had the balls to drop an album title like that in 1993 (!). Not Too $hort, not Ice Cube, not DJ Quiks crew. No one. Love my 90's Prince. And all his women is just my type, physically. Nona, Mayte, Carmen. Whoa! 10/10. He sure had that "it" factor about him. I did cringe when he went into the rap thing, because that was so not good. ......Now I know that the man was good at a lot of things, but rapping wasn't one of them, and a couple of other things that made me cringe was the early music videos of him in the trench coat and speedo underwear with the boots, and the ass out yellow outfit......yikes! I think Prince was trying to keep up with the young ones because Prince felt grandfathered when rap exploded in the late '80s lol as people slowly considered him to be a has been around the early 90s and still referred him to his 80s fame even though Prince made some good things in the 90s too very overlook. When I was in high school even though people thought it was weird for me as a teen in the mid 90s to listen to Prince they respect his art.
He went from being unique to mainstream by the late '80s. I know Jill Jones said this too that Prince went from being an innovator to comformist especially in the late '80s when he was trying to be like the New Jack artists and chasing after Teddy Riley sound instead of continue to expertiment. But Jill had to understand business is business and that is why she left the music industry per she said.
He had a lot of jazzy rap and New Jack Swing in Come and I love New Jack Swing.

So what's your problem? To understate your argument you choose Jughead as a main example? Wow, great ratio sorting out good songs vs bad songs.
