Will Legacy Re-Issue "Crystal Ball"

I wonder if there's going to be an issue with the tracks recorded while Prince was under WB? If Legacy owns these tracks will that prevent them from being used in a "Parade Deluxe" or "SOTT" Deluxe?

If they do-it will be a limited amount made.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Strive

They already re-issued it digitally so the rights must be clear.

I can see it being the next release alongside The Rainbow Children, TBH. There isn’t *that* much of his more commercial work left for Legacy to reissue, until the non-soundtrack Warner albums become available to them in 2021.

There's quite a bit left yet that falls under the current remit of Sony/Legacy that is rife for reissue.

If they've gone ahead and put out Emancipation - not exactly a cheap or simple set, I see no reason why they won't put out the rest of the catalogue that's available to them in the next couple of years.

I can see us getting (at least I hope! I really hope!) reissued (and specifically vinyl) editions of:

Crystal Ball

The Truth

The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale

NewPower Soul

Kamasutra

The Rainbow Children

One Nite Alone

One Nite Alone... Live!

N.E.W.S.

Xpectation

C-NOTE

The Chocolate Invasion

The Slaughterhouse

No reason not to release any of these... all in glorious sound... I dream of having all of these on vinyl!

I have an original of The Rainbow Children but I'd pick up the reissue too.

Not sure how it would be dealt with on vinyl without having long vinyl sides.

If they do, I would request that The Truth get its own standalone release. It deserves it.

Let Kamasutra be buried in the past where it belongs!

Crystal Ball would fit nicely on a 4LP set. The music isn't divided up thematically like Emancipation, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Somebody over at the Steve Hoffman forum worked it out a while ago and 4LPs is a perfect fit for the 3 CDs. They timed it out and everything..

And NO! Let's have Kamasutra as well.... let's have it all! cool

Also, I agree that The Truth should be packaged as a standalone album... It's that way on streaming services now, so I imagine that's how it would be considered for any physical release.

Of course...it’s probably the most sought after release for newbies. Super pricey for an original...UMG will probably try a big promotional push. I’m sure they will release everything that was previously out of print or internet only. Who actually thought they’d release the Versace Experience? They’ll get to everything eventually

I really appreciated Crystal Ball at the time it was released. It was great to discover songs like Crucial, Sexual Suicide and Acknowledge Me. On reflection however, I have a lot of criticisms of it…

1) The track list was a little messy for my taste. It would have been nice if each disc was dedicated to a specific era.

2) It was brick walled to high heaven. I’m normally the last person to complain about this, but this was way over the top. The album is far too loud.

3) Despite each CD not being very long, so many of the tracks were edited down to an unnecessary extent.

.
Had Crystal Ball not been released, WB would now have more freedom when it comes to compiling a Sign ‘O’ The Times Deluxe edition, a Dream Factory era album or with any luck (if they can get clearance for Beautiful) even a Gold Experience Deluxe edition. (Would that fall under WB or Sony?) I really hope WB and Sony can play nice when it comes to making these expansive sets.

.

At the very least, maybe a vinyl release should alleviate the bricking issues.

Remember the masters were worked on afresh with lots of editing and change made, so the versions would be different (hopefully) on any deluxe remasters to come. Some parts with Wendy and Lisa were edited out of Dream Factory for instance.

A stand-alone vinyl release of The Truth would be a must-have for me. As for Crystal Ball, I think that was Prince's worst victim of the LOUDNESS WARS, so if it was remastered properly that would be a tempting prospect.

Dear Sony,
.
I know the Legacy CDs up until now have been re-issues, but please, I beg you, if you need to master the original tapes for the vinyl then please remaster them again for the CDs and knock the volume on it's head. It's a real problem.

True.

Agree.

Don't fuck it up next time, Sony.
