The estate hears you loud and clear: more cassette transfers in 2020. The people demand it!

What other cassettes did he release/give away? . The Undertaker comes to mind, but that was a cd. Would be great if they released that though. (even though it's been bootlegged in pristine quality) Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

Just think what a Dream Factory set or The Dawn release would do on the charts, they haven’t really scratch the surface yet. “Oh the possibilities” [Edited 9/25/19 14:13pm]

I honestly would like to see this released, as it contains many rarities and unreleased stuff:

Him alive, that would have been different, and I would have enjoyed the release. Now that he s dead, releasing this kind of thing without even a booklet in it, I pass.

Everyone always brings up Dream Factory--why wouldn't they (or why wouldn't we want them to) just put the remaining tracks on a SOTT deluxe? Everyone pre-emptively itching for that double-dip? [Edited 9/25/19 14:58pm]

. Where did they put the 2" tapes? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Personally, I'd love project and concept albums to be released in tandem to deluxe re-issues, be via record day or Paisley Park subscription. Camille The Flesh The Rebels Varsace II Emancipation Single Disc The Family (By Prince) The Time (By Prince) etc etc .

Much better than this crap release deseves. Definately utter crap. I didn't pay for it thankfully and deleted the lot after one play. The power of marketing.... As equality grows, violence declines.

...I don't know what to say. I think this is selling well just because a lot of news sites reported on the reissue.

So funny! Usually people round here complain that releases don't sell enough - and if something sells more then expected they complain too.
To each his own. I like Versace a lot. Played it a lot when it was a bootleg, and now I'm very glad to finally be able to play it from an official release. It really shows off the playful side of Prince during an era which is most often described as his bitter years.

I can’t believe I’m reading some of these comments. Some context needed; TVE and other sampler tapes mentioned were exactly that - samplers of music that prince was either still working on (and yet to be released) or completed material again yet to be released. (And for obvious reasons rose was chosen as the preferred media!) Given the ongoing dispute with WB TVE was (alongside other projects such as TBE) an opportunity to share some of the work in progress and withheld material, and as such of great importance (then and now). The music on this set is awesome... and at the time (and today) a real insight into just how prolific a period it was for Prince. So warranted the release; but chart figures are meaningless as a release can chart these days with relatively low sales (compared to the past)...

I noticed that “Rootie Kazootie” is pitched higher than the full version from the bootleg Madhouse 24. "Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system" - Bruce Lee

Someone mentioned Mr.Howe believes leaving all these cassettes at their improper tape speeds is most respectful to his proper legacy.

It's the opposite of your intention, but your post just makes me even more aghast at the triviality of this release. Literally just as you say it, a sampler of music given away like record stores used to give out cassette samplers for small-time bands. Originally given away, a sampler of music, now pressed to limited vinyl and sold at an inflated price (well, it never even had a price in the first place, since it was a sampler).... And they couldn't even dig in the vault for more than half a month to find the original mulitracks, we're dubbing from cassettes like a tape trader from the 80s.

. The whole CD / vinyl has been ripped from a cassette tape at the wrong speed, leaving everything a little higher pitched than it should be. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

That's 3 out of 3 cassettes now ripped at improper speeds thus far, for those of you keeping track at home. . But in all fairness, maybe Prince decided to tune all 27 instruments a couple mico-semitones off that day (or days, however long it took to record the sampler) because he was feeling kinda kooky. I mean you're going to tell me a multi-instrumentalist, professional musician, recording since the age of 18, roughly 15 years into his career is going to always record in tune? Ooookay. I did wonder about that, but haven’t heard any of the other tracks yet. Kinda like the idea of messing with stuff like that though!
