Didnt see George Michael either, but perhaps that's too much of 'no rock'? Just like MJ.

A brilliantly curious list...Dave Gilmour's voice? Hmmm.

There's no Mark Lanegan, either.

Prince should atleast been in the top 10, as an all round musician who could beat any other on any instrument, and his more prolific cataloge and commercial domination.

But i am not surprised Freddy Mercury is number 1, he on most lists is at number 1, especially greatest front man of all time. He communicated with teh crowd like no other. Also Bohemian Rapsody being most streamed song of the 20th centuary helped. The film is the catalyst for there new found popularity.

Prince 2010 Good Luck for Future & Tour

No problem with the top 6, though after #1 I am not sure I would go in the same order. Prince is often discounted due to how difficult it is to categorize him.

I had to laugh very hard seeing people like Alice Cooper (29), David Bowie (17) and Ozzy (7 !lol!) infront of Prince, Sting and Little Richard which makes this list absolutely invalid although Freddie on #1 is okay for me.

Considering Prince´s vocal recognition value and his vocal range (https://www.concerthotels.com/worlds-greatest-vocal-ranges) he should definitely in the top #20 if not higher.

I don't think Paul McCartney or John Lennon have beautiful voices like either Prince or Elvis.

Is rock music really about beautiful voices though? 'Cause there's death metal singers who do growling style vocals. Do people listen to punk rock to hear Jackie Wilson singing on the songs? A lot of rock singing is more about attitude than sounding like Minnie Riperton. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Perhaps beautiful is not the best word. Both Elvis and Prince were full of soul and seduction....Paul McCartney's voice sounds thin, high and reedy and John Lennon's is flat...no soul.

It's rock n roll though, not soul or gospel music. How many people listen to KISS, Motorhead, AC/DC, Rush, or Iron Maiden to hear soul singing? Are fans of Green Day looking for vocals to be seduced by? Same for dance music acts like New Order & Pet Shop Boys. Kraftwerk often used a vocoder on their songs to sound like a robot. Not everybody is looking for soulful or beautiful singing, that's why these acts are popular. Notice that rock fans often talk about the guitar solo or maybe the drummer more than the singer. Eddie Van Halen is more the star of his band than David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, or Gary Cherone.

I am responding to them as a woman...both of them 'got' women. They were sexual and women felt it.

U shouldn´t take lists like these too serious. Many artists are randomly placed. Ozzy on #7 speaks for itself. This dude can´t even sing. Roger Daltrey on 4? I really have to get the shit the author smoked.

I know and it is all subjective. Prince is #1 in my book and that is all that matters. biggrin

Maybe that's why heavy metal & prog rock acts tend to have a majority male audience. Also, songs about Dungeons & Dragons type subject matter probably has less romantic appeal. razz I guess looking like GWAR, King Diamond, or Slipknot doesn't help to attract women either. lol
