Are the non WB Re-Issues remastered?

I'm still confused by some of this. Does anyone actually know if they are?

I don't own any of the recent re-issues, yet can say with some confidence that there has been no remastering. The only Prince album that has been remastered is the 2017 Purple Rain release. Sorry sad

Everyone says the CDs are the same.

For the LPs the review at the top of this page says the brickwalling/volume maximization is removed, which is pretty friggin' significant to me and a bigger selling point than gigantic artwork or purple vinyl:

I'd love to read more from others:

I thought the 2011 vinyl reissues of most of the 80s catalogue that used to be available as digital downloads on HDTracks were confirmed remastered. Could be wrong.

Haven't heard the CDs, but the records, though they may not technically be remastered, would have to use a different (or at least tweaked) master than the CDs simply because of how vinyl record cutting is done.

I was surprised to read the remastered verbiage from Sony Legacy UK's twitter: "We're preparing to release the third wave of remastered back catalogue gems from the legendary @prince; 'Emancipation', 'Chaos and Disorder' and 'The Versace Experience (Prelude 2 Gold)', out September 13." https://mobile.twitter.co...7862491137

Same language on their site about remaster https://www.legacyrecordi...ore-prince

https://forums.stevehoffm...ks.313583/
which cites here, specifically the bottom page of https://prince.org/msg/7/357631:

user electricberet apparently wrote to Bernie Grundman Mastering directly and recieved the following response:

Yes those titles were remastered at our studio by Bernie.
We received the original tapes and remastered them, using the original first pressings as references.
We did the work back in January of this year.

24bit/96kHz digital audio files of these pressings used to be on HDTracks.com, but they're not available there anymore.

Yes they are.

For instance, Planet Earth (the whole album) sounds completely different.

PURPLEIZED3121

really hoping 3121 was remastered, some of it was compressed to death.

Is the new release better or worse?

It depends on your tastes.

You'll find more bass on the original release. The reissue sounds less compressed too. A good test is to compare the trumpet intro on SHOE and the intro of Chelsea Rodgers on both editions. You'll hear the difference.

IMO, the new master is great for the more acoustic tracks (SHOE, Resolution,etc...) but not as great for the R&B/funk tracks because they're not as punchy as on the original release.
