"Lenny Kravitz on Prince: ‘I wish I could be back in the cold, spending time with him’"

https://www.twincities.co...-with-him/

.

But Kravitz, who headlines Minneapolis’ Orpheum Theatre on Sunday night, had a very close friend he’d make an exception for. And that was Prince.

.

“It’s funny, I used to get so mad at him. He’d call me to come (to Minnesota) in the dead of winter. I’d never say no, but what the hell? It’s freezing and bleak!”

.

Kravitz, 55, first met the Purple One in 1990, soon after his debut album “Let Love Rule” introduced the singer/songwriter/guitarist to the world. They hit it off and spent the next few decades hanging out together in locales around the world, playing late-night jam sessions and bonding over their shared love of music.

.

“I was influenced by him since high school and he was and always has been a great example of an artist,” Kravitz said. “I recorded all sorts of secret things with him. We had our fun in our way.”

.

This is only an excerpt, the full article contains more about Prince.

.

Thanks for posting this. Lenny is such an amazing person. I truly believe he is down to earth and real and would've been a good friend to Prince had Prince allowed him into his life more. I just saw Lenny perform Wednesday evening and he put on an awesome show. One of the best times I've had at a concert in years (other than Prince).

Good interview - always loved Lenny Kravitz. Have been playing recently his extended 4-track single of "Are You Gonna Go My Way" which is a great Prince-esque example of a maxi single with GREAT b-sides. . There is defintely a Prince influence on a few tracks on "Raise Vibration". Like Prince he's also a dude who's looking great in his 50's.

Anybody remember Lenny as Romeo Blue during his Prince phase? I always wonder how Prince felt about the Lenny/Ingrid “Justify” controversy.

Isn't that always the way it goes when those you loved passes on. I know many that feel the same way about those that are no longer here, and I'm one of them. It's too bad that we often take for granted life, naively thinking that it will go on forever.

It was Prince that encouraged Ingrid to take it to court. He heard the song, phoned Ingrid and said "I know that's you".

Ingrid talks about in this interview I did with her biggrin

Yes, cool interview. Prince obviously didn’t hold it against Kravitz...he prolly jokingly fucked with him about the theft. It is interesting that the “Justify” omission came after P went uncredited on Madonna’s album...probably by their mutual design (?)

Ingrid seemed to imply that it was more the label or the people around Lenny or Madonna rather than Lenny himself.

I took an exercise class the other day and the last song the teacher played was ‘When Doves Cry’. I said this is probably my favorite song ever. He then told me a story of when he went to see Lenny Kravitz in concert. At one point Prince came onstage and jammed with Lenny. He said it was incredible, of course. He then said to me that Lenny is the nicest, most down to earth person (my teacher used to train Lenny). He said that long after he stopped training him and would bump into him, Lenny would always stop and take the time to chat. He said he wasn’t stuck up at all. I love Lenny and all, but I was more interested in the Prince story, lol. I asked if they sang ‘American Woman’ and if Prince had that electric blue outfit on, but he couldn’t remember what they sang. He said Prince body surfed, though.

I went to see Lenny in Minnepolis last night. He said something along the lines that Prince was the greatest of all time and that he would get into that later, because he didn't want to cry. Someone handed him a Prince shirt and he hung it over the drum kit and left it there for the remainder of the show.

Lenny is a class act! I loved his concert last week. It was such high energy and he seemed so happy and into what he was doing. The band was awesome too.
