Baby I'm a star live - Partyman piano line Just been watching the official live video of Baby I'm a Star ((https://www.youtube.com/w...Lgf2VU_M70) and noticed for the first time: The start of the piano solo at 10.20 is the same as on the studio version of Partyman (https://www.youtube.com/w...zqaTU5bGx8) at the 3.20 mark. Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I never noticed this before...

I've noticed that as well. If it is the same line I'm hearing in my head, it was used by The Original 7 on "Toast To The Party Girl" (which wouldn't shock me if it was a playful goof on Prince). That is one seriously hot track and a fantastic album. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. Actually, that piano line is exactly why Prince would often say "who wrote that" while playing "What Have You Done For Me Lately". Jimmy Jam plays that exact piano line in the song as well as variations of his piano licks. P sure loved to take credit for others' contributions but hated when people did the same to him. Prince and Flyte Tyme/The Time were the embodiments of the Minneapolis sound and constantly "borrowed" from each other. "Friendly" competition at its best. | |
