Madhouse's "Six" is a Sly Stone song? According to this post on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/...265569546/
.
My brother surprised me with this most wonderful funkiness! In the 80’s, I worked for Sly Stone, and had heard him working on this magical tune. I was there when a cassette tape of it was given to Susan Rogers at Sunset Sound. A few weeks later, I heard 6 on the radio, and was amazed. Who was Madhouse?! Then it came out that Madhouse was Prince & it all made sense.
.
[...]
.
I’m saying Sly gave it to Prince. Possibly because Prince had paid off some back Child support that Sly owed, & got Sly out of jail.

Interesting. I never knew Prince paid off Sly's child support. Doesn't really seem like something he would do. [Edited 8/30/19 10:12am]

I’ve always loved 6, especially the live incarnations performed as part of IGBABN. It wouldn’t immediately scream Sly to me, but listening back it could be. Who's the source? Sly is still with us, maybe he’ll confirm it at some point?
I also didn’t know that Prince had helped Sly out in that way. I often wondered why Prince hadn’t brought him aboard, but just assumed that he was wary of that kind of chaotic personality (as lovely as Sly is). [Edited 8/31/19 1:17am] |

Paying off someone's medical bills is a bit different than paying off back child support. Nice of him either way (of course).

He never even met the dude, though.
If the premise behind his philanthrophy was as the article suggests -- he wanted to help him simply because he was one of his musical idols -- makes sense he'd help Sly regardless of the specific reason Sly needed help. |

It sounds entirely in character and in line with other things he did for friends, colleagues and heroes. |

I went through a divorce, mentioned it as part of something else. He tried to give me money. I wouldn't take it though, because I wanted to work through the process of saving myself, but it was still an unexpected surprise that he would make an offer like that, and try to improve things for me. |

Back then huh? before I read this I assumed it might have been years later.
Prince knew Sly didn't like him and didn't want anything to do with him, according to Jesse Johnson. I wonder why if this is true, that Prince would do it. Take the song or pay the bills |

This isn't correct.
Prince and Sly met during the 1977 recording sessions for "For You" at the Record Plant in Sausalito.

When did Jesse say that ? ...
He said either early this year or it was in an interview last year. I believe someone asked about the Shockadelica situation and he was talking about doing Crazy with Sly. I'll locate it and post it, unless someone else has it at hand and ready.

That's too bad if Sly didn't want to be bothered with him. Would've been awesome to see them collaborate. It is still nice of Prince to help him out financially though if that's the case and hopefully Sly appreciated it. Oh well, at least P still got to collaborate with some of his other influences though. Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

I've heard of some that didn't like Prince like Rick James, Michael Jackson, who supposedly said Prince was mean, and James Browns who some said favored Michael Jackson over Prince, even though Prince admired him and considered him a huge influence on his career, just as Michael did. It's no surprise to me that Prince was not liked by some, because let's face it, Prince could be nasty at times, and was known to treat some around him that way, I'm sure we've all heard about it. But it doesn't surprise me either that he did good things for others too, because he had his good side as well, he just didn't boast about it. |

Yes and he wasn't a butt kisser either. Perhaps that may have turned some people off as well because it may have been viewed as him being conceited, aloof, narcissistic, etc. Sometimes that industry appears to have alot of sucking up going on and P wasn't having any of it. However, people that knew him well always talk about how nice he really was. [Edited 9/1/19 9:04am] Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

6 doesn't sound like something that Sly would do, or did. It's also the weakest track on 8. It does sound out of place on the album though, so maybe...
.
Guess I'll have to ask the twins if they have any info on this. They've been talking to Sly for a while now. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here! |

This story doesn’t ring true for me. Plus, I don’t think Sly has been in songwriting mode for decades. And he was barely able to sing a few background lines with Jesse Johnson around this time. |

Sly has not stopped writing songs, ever. However, he has not been too focused, so, unlike Prince, he never actually finishes things before he moves on to something else. There's tons of half finished songs and ideas that he has. Quality varies and, in some cases, sounds quite dated. Or so the stories go. I have not yet been able to listen to any of it, unfortunately. Yes
It is sorta weird though. How there were people Prince wanted to collaborate with but not in a face sto face situation like Miles, Clare Fisher etc but yes with Sly and Joni Mitchell |
