The '86 Birthday Show Detroit Masonic Temple. I went to high school a few blocks from there. I'd heard about the show, and everybody was asking me was I going. I didn't have the money, but the radio was already saying it was sold out, so I didn't think too much more about it. Anyway, somehow I missed my bus that day and in Detroit you don't wait at the bus stop alone unless you just like trouble, so I started walking to the next stop figuring I'd be safer moving than standing around. And anyway I've got my walkman and I'm carrying a red case with everything Prince ever released on cassette just about stuffed in it. At some point I look up and see the marquee "Prince and The Revolution". It was early in the day and not a soul was in sight, but I saw a couple of private buses. I thought 'wow people coming in from out of town to see the show' and drudged on by them. If I had a time machine I would go back and slow down, because now I know that was probably sound check or something. He was probably on that bus. Anyway the show goes on to be a bootlegged classic and I was in the midst if it but somehow missed out it completely, even in '86. | |
