prince sang about ideals, platitudes when it came to a lot of his lyrics, (love 4 one another, paisley park and the rest of the utopian tunes going back to Dirty Mind) but reality is not idealism. They say that the prince thing of running from people was part act, it's hard to say.

as far as how fucked up people are, you're right, i learned that from my parents who'd come home from work disgruntled about someone at work fucking with them. I never trusted, never, i've had few close friends, lost many more close friends and been betrayed in small or great ways by everyone I've ever known. These days people can do me a helluva favor by just leaving me the fuck alone. Sometimes I really do believe that there are demons running around getting into people because a lot of the things they do and quickness with which they'll change and turn on you has to have something spiritual going on. One of the wierdest things though is how people who'll fuck any chance they get and they want to make small talk or maintain normal manners like saying good morning or what have you, people are fucked up. Prince still let too many people close, let too many people into his home and into his life. In fact, that was one of the more shocking revelations after he died, how many people he got around to, opened his life to, was accessible to. They say towards the end he let down a lot.
