Strive

“We would average six or seven 90-minute cassettes every rehearsal day. Imagine the stuff that’s in the vault. Saturday afternoons, it would be just him and me and Sheila in there. He’d ask me what I was doing. It was never, ‘Hi, how are you?’ The phone would ring, I’d pick it up and say hello. ‘Can you be here at noon?’ ‘Sure.’ Or, ‘sorry, no, I can’t.’ And noon meant I had to be there an hour ahead of time. The teapot would be on, plenty of honey. It was a Styrofoam cup, half a cup of honey and a little bit of tea on top, and some milk. You’d get that going, turn everything on. I never picked up a guitar and tuned it; he’d do all that. He’d play keyboards or drums. He’d get somebody that played guitar and he’d play drums. Somebody would knock on the door and it would be some sax player he’d invited over.”

An excerpt from the interview...

Cubby:

“I think Matt Fink’s story last night about the bullhorn on the airplane is the greatest story I’ve heard. This was on the Dirty Minds tour. Prince told Matt Fink to pull the bullhorn out of the safety equipment [in the overhead bin]. He said it would be great to have a bullhorn in the show: ‘Go up and grab that.’ Matt got the bullhorn and Prince said, ‘Put it in your bag.’ ‘I don’t have any room in my bag.’ He walked down the aisle and gave it to Dez Dickerson, and he put it in his bag. They landed and the pilot came out and said, ‘You, you and you and your group, you need to wait.’ Everybody got off the plane and they got arrested and taken downtown to Memphis. They were handcuffed; it was a Federal offense. They were in the holding tank and a lady looked through the window and says, ‘Is that you, Prince?’ They all think, thank god, somebody recognizes him. ‘What are you doing in there?’ He says, ‘Can you help us?’ He’s trying to explain why they’re there. At the end of the day all she wanted was an autograph. As soon as they signed the piece of paper they were free to go. That’s the kind of a jokester he was. This kind of thing had been going on a long time.”

I had no idea Prince and the rest of the band were "arrested," if only for a couple of hours. There must be thousands of interesting stories like this...

Memphis is in the house, represent! I'm there right now!!!! This story sounds familiar, as if I heard it on K97 or 107.1!

I really enjoy reading these articles, thanks.

"...the guy always looked like a million bucks. I said to him one day, Prince, you look like a million bucks. He says, ‘That’s all? It’s more like four million when I look at myself.’ I’d say, ‘okay man, you look like five million.’ He goes, ‘I think that’s more like it.’ " lololol

During the very first celebration I stopped at the gas station closets to PP. The cashier working told me Prince would stop by often and he would always buy a peanut roll (close to a PayDay) and Hawaiian Punch. Just a tidbit of info.

How about you READ that sentence a couple of times. It's a short one, so it should be easy to determine what it means. The only way to misinterpret it, is by deliberately doing so. Becuse it is crystal clear what that sentence means.

This is an old interview -- April 2016. I'm surprised I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere before. I glossed over it when I read that part last night. I'm not making any assumptions, but it could explain a lot of things. He'd been vegan for a while. *Ducking*

.

Edit: spelling

"He was such a believer that he became a vegan to cure himself."
He became a vegan after discussing it with Steve Parke. In the last ten years of his life, he was a lacto-fish-vegetarian.

"I know close friends [and] that worked for them, when chemo didn’t."
This is about OTHER PEOPLE who Cubby knew, who claimed to have cured cancer by being vegan.

The interview is horribly edited and punctuated.

Paisley was not built in 1985. Cubby seems to call all rehearsal spaces 'Paisley'.

They may have been arrested due to the bullhorn theft but that mugshot out there is a blatant fake.

Wish people would get their facts straight.

It was Jackson, Mississippi not Memphis where he was arrested.

Prince also has a more direct—and more curious—connection to the city of Jackson. Last August, a viewer asked http://www.wapt.com/news/...e/35735976">WAPT to look into a mugshot of Prince that had been making the rounds on the Internet, and anchor Ryan Houston obliged.

The mugshot was, in fact, real, Houston reported, and came from the musician's arrest after a show at the Mississippi Coliseum in March 1980, when Prince had been opening for Rick James. While boarding a plane departing from Jackson, keyboardist Matthew "Dr. Fink" Fink, who played in Prince's band, The Revolution, told the late legend that he had seen a megaphone in the overhead compartment.

Prince allegedly suggested that he put it in his carry-on bag, and a woman aboard the plane alerted authorities, who then detained both Fink and Prince for questioning. Police chose not to file charges.

i always heard that mugshot was fake, it looks like an outtake from the second albums photo shoot. and I believe i heard the photo was reversed, prince's head looks different.

He didn't suggest that Prince was suffering from cancer with that, he was merely refering to friends of his, but it is indeed strange to mention Chemo in the context of his recollections of him knowing Prince. Or did he suggest that Prince was suffering from cancer?

He didnt suggest that prince had cancer. He was saying that prince adopted a vegan lifestyle as a way to mitigate pain, and "heal". As you stated, he mentioned his friends as examples of a vegan lifestyle facilitating the healing process for them when chemo wasnt effective. He's not correlating prince with cancer. He's correlating veganism with healing.

This is what you want...This is what you get.

interesting that he mentioned chemo in some loose association in discussing Prince because leukemia has been a rumor that many of us have heard.
