Multiple choice. The answers are upside down.

I saw this quiz on one of the facebook pages and got stuck on a couple of them. LOL at some of the choices though.

I've read he used to go to Rudolph's BBQ in Minneapolis when he was still a meat eater and lived next door. They talked about it when the restaurant closed in June 2018.

Yes, but I think he'd mentioned Jimi, and it was clear that he was emulating him in some of his style of playing and performing. Since Carlos was not a choice Jimi is the next best answer.

He did watch a lot of TV though - maybe the majority was VHS tapes, but I think he watched shows like SNL, and Susannah mentioned In Living Colour. Seems he liked the comedies, and he definitely watched the late night comedians - Dave Letterman, Johnny, and later Jay Leno.

As I recall, he never mentioned Jimi. Other people would ask him about comparisions between him and Jimmi and he'd respond by saying that he thought Santana was the more appropriate comparison.

It's only because he's black. That's really the only thing we have in common. He plays different guitar than I do. If they really listened to my stuff, they'd hear more of a Santana influence than Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix played more blues; Santana played prettier. You can't compare people, you really can't, unless someone is blatantly trying to rip somebody off. And you really can't tell that unless you play the songs.

You've got to understand that there's only so much you can do on an electric guitar. I don't know what these people are thinking -- they're usually non-guitar-playing mamma-jammas saying this kind of stuff. There are only so many sounds a guitar can make. Lord knows I've tried to make a guitar sound like something new to myself.

I guess my point was that when he did actually sit down to watch some TV it wasn't just the VHS tapes. He would most likely have been catching some network, and later cable, shows too. I don't think he "regularly" watched TV - as in everyday - but I'm sure he caught some shows.

Right, TV would not have been an inspiration for his music - he just happened to mention during the PP P&M show that the first songs he learned on Piano were the show theme songs (Batman, Man From U.N.C.L.E., Peanuts theme, etc) which he learned from watching the shows.

I think the "Jimi as an influence" thing came from many of the journalists comparing his playing and style to Jimi and knowing that he would have been an influence. Even Jesse Johnson told the story (on Questlove's show I think) of first seeing Prince perform and after the show telling him that he was really influenced by Jimi too - to which Prince replied, "I don't know his music" - and Jesse laughed and said "oh come on! that's bullshit!" - because to him it was obvious that Prince knew his music and was influenced by him.

Prince always said through the years that he never watched TV because he didn't have time, but there is so much to contradict that. Jill J, Susannah and Anna G have all confirmed that they spent a lot of time with TV and popcorn. Later, he liked the show New Girl so much that he agreed to do a guest spot. Zoe De Chanel said she was shocked that he even knew about the show and who she was. Associates have talked about watching American Idol with him and they would critique the contestants. Then Prince ended up performing on the show. Another associate told the story of watching SNL with him when Destiny's Child performed for the first time, and Prince said something like, "they've got potential". So, he definitely found time to watch the Tube
