"Film is ok for 4k but some of the new completely digital film making is beginning to make the dead pixel look of film passe. Film grain is essentially fine random dead pixels in the emulsion of a film frame. Some of the sillier film critics and directors don't like admitting this fact."

35mm is merely the dimension of physical film stock. This is a 4:3 ratio whereby s35mm is 16:9.

Film is optical so can be telecined to whatever quality is required, yet the finer the grain the better quality the transer will be.

One key difference between 8, s8, 16, s16, 35, s35, 70 and other larger formats if the size/quality of the light-sensitive silver halide crystals. This ultimately gives you the quality you are after... at a price. Older film stock was made out of silver bromide hence the reason the film turned brown. Older film stock was actually self combustable hence why many studios burned down.

However, the production methodology will also have an impact on quality.

For example, SOTT was shot on film and cut on film, therefore making the required print for cinema exhibition - as it was in 1987. Today digital playback is used.

However, U Got The Look was shot on film, 16mm, which is a different ratio to SOTT so the top and bottom had to be masked off. This was telecined onto tape for editing. It would have been u-matic back in 1987. Multiple copies would have been made in order to achieve the multi dissolve effects. This will have a massive impact on quality of the image. The final tape master would then have been telecined back onto film to be spliced into the final edit. Hemce why it looks so very bad!

Lower price on the classic cover too. I'm thinking 2nd edition to meet demand while keeping the limited edition status of the first.

Yes, I remember (on their Facebook page perhaps) it said the blu ray would be a standalone release in the UK.

I got my copy last month and watched both the concert film again and The Peach and Black Times documentary. The late addition interviews to the latter by Cat and Levi were much appreciated. Very nice packaging too if you're into that kind of thing.

A region free Blu-ray player is one of the best purchases I ever made.

I'd have to agree. I was disappointed that the legacy LP releases did not come with lyrics and had scant production notes.

Hi everyone.

48 year old fan here from Plymouth, England.

I have a dilemma.

Is this release coming out elsewhere or should i just fork out and get this German release?

Amazon UK have it for preorder but says it will arrive in aprrox 2 months. Priced at £60.

Anyone konw if this will one day et a proper release even if its just a 2 disc set of the movie on blu ray and the documentary etc on 2nd disc.

Don't particularly need the 12 inch box i would rather have it in a standard blu ray box or even a steelbook.

Any advice would be apprecated.

Thanks Bart for all the information, I would have missed this release.

I ordered it on Friday (60 €), received it today, it's a wonderful package.

I got very sentimental watching the highlights like Housequake, If I Way Your Girlfriend and most of all The Cross, remembering the time when I was watching this movie at a cinema here in Vienna back in 1988. Prince was on top of his game and everybody knew it.
