I've never shaved Emancipation down to one CD, but I did get it down to two once, and I can't find that list anywhere.

The stuff from D&P through just before Emancipation is as rich as the mid 80s, IMO.

Black Sweat is the jam. Many fond memories of rattling the windows and waking the neighbors with the bass on that one.

It's a great release. Much better than Musicology in my opinion. 3121 is what Musicology SHOULD have been. The beats are fire, the lyrics are fire, the songwriting ...fire.

Only track I skip really is Incense and Candles really ....(just kinda drags along imo).

They're both in good-not-great territory for me, really. 3121 possibly does slightly better Musicology, because it isn't quite so self-consciously angled towards being a massive commercial comeback, so feels a little more authentically Princey-weird rather than making a mere impersonation of Princey weirdness. If that makes any sense...

Maybe the beat is the problem, the song and composition and lyrics are Prince funk at it's classic. Did you hear the acapella version in his dressing room during the Musicology tour concert in Canada, or the Piano & a mic version... It is truly an old school funk song, but gets swept under the rug due to the beat.

Its that high pitch whine throughout the song. It completely ruins that song for me.

I think 3121 is ok...I do listen to Musicology more often...but think AOA is better than both.

The 3121 title track is one of Prince's dopest songs - what a rhythm section in veterans Sonny & Michael. In fact I love the first 4 songs on 3121. I've never gone back to Musicology since first hearing on release. I quite like the title track but never really loved the throwback sound of that period.

Ok I finally got around to listening to 3121 in its entirety and I think it is amazing! Haven't listened to Musicology all the way through but I like a few of the songs I have heard so far.

I always felt that way about Planet Earth too, right from the first time I heard it. But for some reason I've been listening to it a bit lately and I've been getting quite into it. I dunno, maybe I'm just getting old. Although I still really dislike All The Midnights and Resolution.

I actualy really enjoy most of Planet Earth, to each their own.

anybody know if the original version of 3121 ..the song....with different lyrics... is the same musically??
