little wing, wind cries mary, it's just your opinion. Jimi was quite a package as an artist.

Bowie's estate has Iman. The Prince Estate does not have that person. I think Frank Zappa's estate does it well too with his son at the helm.

I just feel Prince was more verastile than Jimi as a musician and performer.... Wind Cries Mary is a good song...

jimi broke more ground than just about anyone, a fact he doesn't get credit for.

The importance of Jimi is more than his technique or his songs. It's what it meant at the time and what it allowed to happen after. The same way that it is impossible to know what the Beatles meant if you just listen to their albums now. . There are people now that run a lot faster than Jesse Owens. Doesn't mean they are better or have more of an impact. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

Yup, it really is dependent on the context of the time... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

very good point. In many cases, you really had to be there to fully understand the impact and importance of some artists.

Pete you'll be proud, I heard a couple Hendrix songs in the bar the other, one being wind cries mary snd I even sang along to it. Jimi is not bad.

that's wonderful, I'd probably try to learn some but i'm a pianist and i've heard little wing on piano once and it doesn't quite translate too well.

Same here--older than you. Jimi has some undeniable classics...and obviously Prince got some of his groove from listening to Jimi...as well as other artists like James Brown, of course! MIInsane said: I wanna preface this by saying that I have been a Prince fan since the release of the "1999" album. I have spent thousands of dollars on his music and I will continue to buy everything that is released.
That being said, I am a member of a certain Prince group on Facebook. There are people in that group that say that Prince was a better guitar player than Hendrix, or that he is the greatest guitar player that ever lived. They also said that Prince was more influential than The Beatles.
Can they possibly believe that crap? IDK but one in particular most certainly is. I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

YES, judging by the place, the same people repeating the same stuff year after year (definition of insanity apparently!) It's like the daycare centre for a lunatic asylum sometimes although I think an asylum would have more sane people in it!

I was referring to the more recent reconciliation of the siblings and a moving forward towards managing Frank's estate more successfully.
"Over the past few years, the children of the late Frank Zappa have been locked in an ugly, public feud over the handling of their father’s estate. Now, according to a statement from the Zappa kids–Moon Unit Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Ahmet Zappa, and Diva Zappa–it looks like the siblings are finally ready to bury the hatchet and work together. On Tuesday, May 15, Dweezil posted a new statement to his website, noting “I just wanted to thank all of you once again for your support. I couldn’t do what I do without you!” in addition to deleting old posts about the family’s disagreements and his public arguments with Ahmet. The note reads: Recently, we Zappa siblings (Diva, Ahmet and Dweezil) got together with the goal of resolving our differences. Once we sat down and actually listened to one another, we found a much greater understanding of each other’s intentions. We regret that our communication broke down and that things were misconstrued. It may be a bumpy road at times – we are a passionate Italian family – but we have decided to work toward privately discussing issues rather than using public forums and lawyers." I just don't see Prince's siblings coming to an agreement like this one. [Edited 8/27/19 9:55am]

i don't know, money causes all kinds of squabbles. but i don't think prince's siblings really have any business sense to begin with, you have the guy who was in an insane asylum and then you have tyka at the helm, who's been in and out of rehab when she wasn't walking the streets trying to feed her drug habit, I think they can be taken and cut out of the whole picture, lotta sharks out there. Jimi's family got fucked and only the intervention of a billionaire got the rights back to them.

I mean...Quincy said it himself. The Thriller song as we know it wouldnt exist without 1999. "You know, this is funky but I wish he'd play like he used to, old scragglyhead son of a...*smack* OOH!"
"Who's the foo singing will it's would"

Quincy also tried to paint Michael as a thief by saying he stole from "State of Indepence" to make "Billie Jean".
This while Quincy himself was producer on BOTH songs, but somehow he was TOTALLY CAUGHT OFF GUARD by "Billie Jean".
Meaning Quincy's take on things ain't worth a salt. "We're not hitchhiking anymore!....we're riding!!"

- Aren't most fans a bit crazy ? - Question also is, how to defind 'crazy' and 'fan' here in this context. - "'fan', or fanatic, sometimes also termed aficionado or supporter, is a person who is enthusiastically devoted to something or somebody..." - So there you have it, 'enthusiastically devoted'. But that can be on many levels. We're all a bit different, right ? It also has a lot to do with how grown up you are, how tollerant you are and how you behave towards other fan(atic)s. Maybe there IS a crazy one here and there, who knows!? So, about the crazy ones; - "'crazy' is someone or something that is insane or not mentally sound. An example of crazy is an idea that makes absolutely no sense. An example of crazy is a person who is in a mental hospital and who is yelling, hallucinating and otherwise acting like they are insane ..." - So there you have that; ...a person who is mental hospital and who is yelling, hallucinating and otherwise acting like they are insane. I don't know any Prince fans personally that give answer to these descriptions. - So, conclusion; I think there are NO crazy Prince fans (on here, for now). But, hell they can be fanatic and devoted, and (very) opinionated. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)
