"Also, why would Warners suddenly release another album this year?" . Yes, the joy for the 1999 Deluxe release is completed by the fact that it is once again the BartVanHemelen's pompous messages turned out to be rancorous garbage.

Yes i'm wondering about this as well. Or are they keeping up the incorrect info so people don't think it's the same as the Purple Rain reissue??

Possessed time runs around the same time as the boot, so most likely the same version. SOOOO looking forward to getting this in studio quality! "I like to watch."

would anyone else have taken a compromise of shoving a "Extraloveable (2019 Promo Edit)" as the last track on the filler promo edits disc every other poster complains about? I mean I kind of like this better than just blanking out the rape lyric, or pretending the track doesn't exist entirely, and we already were inundated with tons of edits in lieu of genuine "full" versions on Originals, maybe test the waters a bit with a tasteful fade at the 4-5 minute mark.

I'm a big fan of the 7" edit of Let's Pretend We're Married. I admit I won't be playing that cd in its entirety more than once probably but I'm still happy it's there.

Yeah I assume it is the 83 version with the "puts up such a fuss" but that was recorded (at least worked on) 15 May 83. Duane Tudahl's book says the song had been around for a while. But the time listed in the book is 8:46 and the one on this set is said to be 8:47... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

. I agree that if it was going to be released at all, a super deluxe set for hardcore fans that would never complain about it would be the perfect way to smuggle it out. . I think the sad reality is that WB want to draw zero attention to this song even existing. Same goes for 'Lust U Always'. If they release an edited version it'll only aggravate the fans and draw more attention to it. . Even in an unreleased state, there is still a risk that one day it'll offend the wrong blue check mark on Twitter and WB / Sony will have a hurricane of piss to clear up. . The best we can all hope for now is a really good leak. If a 'Box O Chocolates' quality version ever dropped that would be some conciliation at this point.

Is there any hint if there would be a "lead single" to promote this with a music video a la Holly Rock? . What would be your choice ? . Will there be a documentary about the making of the album, its reception, its influence and legacy, etc? . Something to reach a bigger audience than just the fans?

A little disappointed the 1983 version of Wonderful Ass isn't on there, a little; I think it's superior to the the 1984 version. A minor complaint though.
I think they've maybe realised that trying to reach a larger audience in 2019 with 35 year old songs is a bit of a dumb idea and they're trying to give more to the people who actually buy this stuff. His autobio will be out though, and he'll still be dead when Netflix finish their documentary.

Strange they decide now to release the 6 versions the same day, whereas for Originals they released the deluxe and vinyl version one month later.

It's a shame they're not doing a 'vault tracks only' vinyl version. I already have the original album on vinyl and I have no interest at all in getting those edits on vinyl.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Honestly I wish they could just do one big box set like the Bowie sets so it doesn't make it so confusing for the fans to buy so many different versions with different booklets, etc...

At last a proper super deluxe treatment for Prince. Looks great. Yes two missing songs but "reasons". Just hoping sound quality is top notch. I can only hope and dream we get a few more like this, at very least Parade and SOTT. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

because "readily online" and "released" are very different things. There's still oodles of things left to be released on the 50th anniversary relese.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Only problem with that idea is that the edits disc is already 78-plus minutes long and therefore unable to hold another song.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Extraloveable is a great song but I imagine any archivist going through vault and hearing the rape lyric would just go "no, just no". Heck even Prince left it in the vault and re-recorded it before releasing it. Much as I am a completist I am not that bothered by it being excluded. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

and even if they didn't find the song, they will now when everyone complains that it isn't on the new release and attract attention to it and even mention that the lyrics could be a problem and mentions rape.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah maybe, but most people aren't paying attention to that stuff. I suppose there's the potential for it blowing up if enough eyes get on it and thinkpieces in the right hands are written up. Official *sanctioned* releases would make this more likely over obscure outtakes.
