The Art & Concepts of Purple Rain the movie book ideas...
I'm a huge fan of Art/Concept/the Making of... books for films. The paintings and murals, the placements of items in the spaces, the Kids bedroom and the Revolutions dressing room. All the information in a sweet coffee table book.
What would a book like like to you, if you are a fan of this kind of presentation?

To be frank: this would be waaaay down on my list, especially when the estate is releasing actual music at a snail's pace. . I also suspect there isn't material to produce such books: these books require some advance planning and often involve people specifically tasked with documenting and preserving such information. Consideing that PR was a low-budget shoot and considering that they don't appear to have kept the outtakes, I suspect such a book would be quite underwhelming. . Look at what has emerged over the years and decades, especially after Prince's death: a bunch of scattershot momentos, but moreover an apparent lack of archiving. Even Prince's vault was an unorganised mess. . Also note that they published two books rather fast, which they somehow still can't manage to ship outside the USA. © Bart Van Hemelen

As a hardcore fan, if I had the access, lol I would be able to put together a wonderful 'the making of' book

They're not gonna play your stupid music. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

MORRIS Huh, excuse me, that's kind of weak...here, try mine.

Information from the set workers and artists would be cool concerning the Kids basement home and the Revolutions dressing room

. For sure, but how many of them are still around? How many have relevant memories after all this time? It's too bad there wasn't a bigger effort around the 20th, 25th and 30th anniversary. I recall one Minneapolis TV station interviewing some people for the 30th anniversary, but in many ways there are still lots of undocumented things about this movie. Including the music. © Bart Van Hemelen

Bart, this is more of a 'fantasy' thread. You don't have to do a pro vs con. I know we are all 'stressed' about the lack of output. But this is really just a feel good thread. . And a lot of them are still around, and there is a lot of information from them from back then. . There was an Art of/Making of Alien book that just came out. Alien came out in 1979. It really isn't difficult to do a book like this. Some are thinner, some are thicker. I checked out the one for Star Wars Rogue One, and it really had nothing substantial in it, nothing that would actually make me view it as a collectors item(especially now that I've concluded SW is over). But they put one together anyway. . All of these images from the movie premier, clothing stylists and just about everyone who was a part of the movie outside of Prince, Billy Sparks, Big Chick are still alive, oh and the 2nd clothing designer Louis Wells, just passed away, but his designs and notes on them are available. The 2016 Academy Screening of Purple Rain hosted 8 people involved. Marie France, Apollonia Kotero, Albert Magnoli, Bob Cavallo, Joseph Ruffalo, Jill Jones and Jerome Benton.
