No, he wouldn't answer that when asked by the interviewer and I am sure he is under a non disclosure agreement of some sort.

He mentioned he even had one on cassette, they managed to use software to pull off the individual tracks and then retracked the multi's they extracted.

Good interview if you have not heard it. Just search Peach & Black Nikos Balak.

.

No, he was talking about extracting the vocal.

Yes, they can milk the Originals theme for as long as they want with just 15 tracks per CD...

Where are the Vault tracks?

Where are the tracks that Don’t need to be mixed or pulled from cassette??? There are thousands of fully mixed and mastered tunes and they let this deaf knob twister muck around with trying to recreate rough mixes they found on cassette ... either the entire vault has disintegrated or the powers that be hate prince fans

I was thinking that myself the other day, surely most of the tracks on Originals and thousands more, exist in an already mixed and completed form. At the most, all these should need are some remastering. So yeah I am not entirely sure why they need to hire a guy to piece multi tracks together and reverb the hell out of his lyrics when Prince has already done the hard work.

Maybe I haven't thought it through, but that is my first thought on this post.

I'd love to hear an original, Prince-only version of "Waiting Room" from No Doubt's Rock Steady album.

Not sure this one counts, this was a callaboration and there is likely no guide version as No Doubt is really the main writer of the song. They sent Prince their version of the song for him to add his magic to, and he added a lot, but there would be no reason for a Prince original version of this.

That said, I wish there was heh.

Interesting! I thought I had read once that Prince basically focused on Gwen only during the process and that the band had very little input on the finished version of the song. Thanks for the clarification.

He definitely princeified it for sure, when he was done, I am sure it sounded very different than the original. What would be interesting is to hear what No Doubt sent him to work with.

Why do people keep listing "Modernaire"? Wasn't that song co-written with Dez? Is there even a version with Prince's vocals?

Not a fan of the "Originals" release personally.

Only listened to it once.

I prefer the Originals of the Originals.

Only listened to half of P&M too. As far as I'm concerned the Estate is not doing a great job of picking appealing releases. At least not for me. Not sure about everyone else.

Shame on this thread!

Two pages in and nobody has asked for "Koo Koo"?

Other than that I want LONG VERSIONS (5:00-6:00+) of "Nasty Girl" and "Sugar Walls".

And I'll take "Modernaire" as well.

I mean, Morris & Jesse Johnson co-wrote "Jungle Love" and we still got a vocal version of that.... Andre Cymone wrote "Do Me Baby" and we got a vocal of that one, too. At this stage I'm convinced we could even get a version of "River Runs Dry."

I belive Andre said what he came with for "Do Me Baby" was so slight and that after they had been working on it for some time... One day (maybe the next day) Prince had flesed it out into what it was. And that Andre did not feel like Prince stole it or that he was owed credit.

Also St Paul said he dosn't belive Prince did a vocal of "River Runs Dry" but then again Paul was not around enough to know. But it seems did not recall having heard it.

Nice list: but it seems Tamar came up with "Redhead Stepchild" basically on the spot... so it is not likley that Prince went back and recorded a vocal for that. I belive that by that time he was not doing too many guide vocals as he did in the early days.

From the pictures of the Vault taken by the police right after his death.

2 versions are listed on 2 different reels : one from Tamar and one from him.
